Born-again Christians

Born again, or to experience the new birth, is a phrase, particularly in evangelicalism, that refers to "spiritual rebirth", or a regeneration of the human spirit from the Holy Spirit, contrasted with physical birth.

In contemporary Christian usage, the term is distinct from sometimes similar terms used in mainstream Christianity to refer to being or becoming Christian, which is linked to baptism. Individuals who profess to be "born again" often state that they have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.[1][2][3] The phrase "born again" is also used as an adjective to describe individual members of the movement who espouse this belief, as well as the movement itself ("born-again Christian" and the "born-again movement").

Are those Christians really "born again"?

In modern American Christianity all being born again requires is saying a predefined sentence or two and really meaning it. No spiritual progress or growth required.

So it is enough to claim: "I am born again!"
And probably add: "I am born again and will go to heaven! All others will go to hell!"
Is that right?

I don't get it. Everybody has dreams and wants but just saying a few words (most likely), is not going to bring some other reality into existence. If one could figure out the doorway to a/the multi-universe, perhaps people would take it more seriously.
It's rather like my meager self saying a few magic words and really, really mean them like I've never done before. A minute or two after I say these words, I actually come to the realization that..I'm not Brad Pitt. Nope, Not even close. I'll be Damned. Excuse the pun.

Why is it that born-again Christians like Trump so much?
I wonder.

Before the end of 2016 there was little in Donald Trump’s life, or frequently offensive political campaign, to suggest that as president he would be hailed as God’s appointee on Earth, be beloved by born-again Christians, or compared to a biblical king.

Yet that is exactly what has happened in the three years since Trump took office, as he has surrounded himself with a God-fearing cabinet and struck up an unlikely but extremely beneficial relationship with white evangelical supporters.

All Christians are born again according to Jesus Christ.

John 3:1-21

1 Now there came a man of the Pharisees whose name was Nicodemus, a member of the council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could do the miraculous signs that you do unless God were with him.”
3 Jesus replied, “I tell you the solemn truth, unless a person is born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb and be born a second time, can he?”
5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the solemn truth, unless a person is born of water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born from above.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Yes, spiritual advice from toxic atheists is what we need more of...

Being born again in the spirit actually pertains only to those who go to heaven, not the great crowd, who will reside on the earth in the flesh...

“Happy are the mild-tempered, since they will inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5

when I read "born-again" I often read "bore-again!"

Nominally, in the Bible, it is a person who has accepted Jesus and God at a point in their life, "new" to God, hence the born-again reference.

In today's lexicon, it has a negative, sort of secular meaning. People who are born again tend to really go overboard when they embrace the religion to the point of being rude, obnoxious and acting morally superior in their new-found acceptance. Regretfully, they have very little understanding of what it means to be Christian and often act in un-Christian-like behavior.

But to be fair, these are the victims of evangelicals; persons who actively recruit followers and tend to be conservative in nature and target people who are weak in mind and spirit and often promise community if you follow that particular church's rules. They use similar strategies that cults use to recruit with. I have a HUGE problem with evangelicals and their program, if for no other reason than that largely speaking, they aren't inclusive of anyone interested, just those they deem worthy of hearing the Word...and can be controlled by the church.

Now, if you are born-again because you came to the conclusion that this is for you largely on your own with some help in trying to understand the basics like Saul did when the scales fell from his eyes (to me it is an allegory of him seeing the rationale of being a Christian) and it appeals to you for whatever reasons...that's one thing. It is a personal thing between a person and God, a personal decision wherein God does not need followers to recruit, but rather be available for questions and to assist in honest attempts to understand. People who are born again in this fashion tend not to be political in their religion, make honest attempts to live as a Christian, feel no need to recruit...and tend to come from all over the spectrum in terms of race and economic status.

If someone comes to you and asks you questions about Christianity and after a point, seem to be open to hearing the Word, go for it. But you don't go looking for them to recruit for your church. If God wants it to happen, he will send the person to you.

To be born again is to have a change of heart, a spiritual transformation.
And yes, it means becoming a child of, and having a relationship with God/Christ.

TDS is behind all your threads?
You're among a handful of topic-creators who tend to end up sh***ing in his own topic - well, that explains it! TDS! :lamo

How come?

Okay - do the brain exercise! Chop-chop!

What platform (Democrats/Trump) is more God-friendly?

Of course, you'll have a very difficult time answering this since based on your posts - and like so many irreligious here - you hardly understand anything from the Scriptures.

Best explanation I have ever read! :peace

Is that right?

Not always, but often, that's for sure. Usually with some smugness thrown in for good measure, "I'll pray you can be saved.... (like me!)"

What platform (Democrats/Trump) is more God-friendly?

That depends. Do you want to worship scamming money from children with cancer? Do you want to worship bragging about sexually assaulting women? Do you want to worship stealing from charity? Do you want to worship scamming people with a fake University? Dp you want to worship racism and White Supremacy?

If so, then the Trump base and Christian Evangelism is definitely for you, because this is what they worship:

If not, then the Democrats are definitely the more Christian friendly platform. Which of these platforms do you think is more God friendly tosca1?

Being born again is a newness brought on by the one true God through knowledge of Himself, in which that person has repented from sin and started on a new path of life in learning and living in step with Him through his holy word.

So God chooses those who are born again?
And others he does not choose.
Not fair.

So these "born-again" Christians can claim that they are chosen by God.

Maybe that explains their arrogance?

Salvation is generated by God alone. It humbles one who is dead in sin and given mercy, having done nothing to deserve it. A Christian is one who speaks reflectively of God’s grace with truth in love and mercy, not arrogance.

Why does your god give children cancer?

Christians are a lot like steer manure. If they are all just in one big pile, they tend to stink. If you spread them out nice and thin they can do some good.

Why does your god give children cancer?

That's a good question. I reject the premise, but it's a good question nonetheless. Perhaps you can ask him when you meet him.

Then go and eat humble pie! :)

Having done nothing to deserve it?

What nonsense!

If God has actually created us, we deserve better servive! :)
