I watch a fair amount of stuff about religion on tv, which is why I say I probably know more about religion in general than a lot of folks who call themselves christians. We all know or should know christ's birthday isn't december the twenty fifty. What else does the bible tell us that isn't true?

If jesus was hauled into court today and was accused of being a fraud that he isn't the son of god, could you prove him innocent and that he is indeed the son of god. I'm talking evidence a court would accept.

I think not. I don't think the 'it's in the bible' defense would hold up.

Thoughts?

Wouldn't the prosecution have to prove fraud? Could you prove Jesus isn't the son of God?

Sure could. We could use any of the methods that were used during the inquisition to find the heretics. If he's proved a heretic he can't possibly be the son of god.

So lets see you do it. Prove Jesus isn't the son of God.
Remember, the accused doesn't have to testify. You have to prove fraud.

Good point.

And would "any of the methods that were used during the inquisition" be admissible in a "court today"? I think not.

I just told you how. He wouldn't survive the inquisition methods of finding heretics.

Of course not...his 1st miracle of turning the water into wine, they would declare it witchcraft and off with his head...

Wait a minute. First you said ,"...hauled into court today and was accused of being a fraud". Now you want torture on the table? And is dying while being questioned proof of guilt?
Not sure what we're discussing here.

Edit- That's pretty much what the Bible says about Jesus, that he died of being tried for fraud.

Funny you should bring that one up. As I watched one of those religious shows today they brought up that specific miracle as being bullcrap. By they I mean scholars.

My point, is the religious jesus the same person as the historical jesus? What do we actually know about jesus? Do we have anything of his? The cross? Heck we can't even agree where he was supposedly crucified let alone where he was buried. Does anything of the historical jesus actually exist or is it all faith based and therefore in no need of proof?

Well, if Jesus were tried in the United States, he could probably get by with a public defender as his lawyer, because it isn't up to him to prove himself innocent. The state has to prove him guilty.

How do you know "He wouldn't survive the inquisition methods of finding heretics". The statement is opinion. Prove it.

Gonna be hard to try him for fraud if he doesn't exist.
Anyway, this isn't about what I thought it was going to be about, so...

So, raising the dead and healing the sick is much more believable...got it...

Elvira, you know as well as I do there is no proof of any of this stuff, none. The closest we have to any artifact are the dead sea scrolls.

So, what is required in order to accept Jesus was the son of God...faith...

You don't prove someone innocent in courts, you prove them guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Christians don't care about evidence anyway. They have their beliefs because thats what they were taught as kids.

Where does it says in the Bible that Jesus was born on December 25?

You may be watching a huge amount of stuff on religion - but obviously, you're watching the fake ones!

.....and.....you couldn't even tell they're bull!

....because......hahahaha.....you still.....know squat! You're handing us that evidence on a platter!

No kidding.
You're claiming something is in the Bible ..........when it's not!

Have you not seen Miracle on 34th Street? Watch the one with Richard Attenborough and Mara Wilson, it's better than the original.

Refer to post #18.

If you were hauled in court today, accused of being a fraud - you'd have convicted yourself with your own words!

All we have to do is show the judge this:

christ's birthday isn't december the twenty fifty. What else does the bible tell us that isn't true?

Can you prove unicorns aren't real.

Co,mon, you cannot make an unproveable statement, and it automatically defaults to proof for you.

I was 'taught' all that stuff in ten years of catholic school. Now I believe none of it. Taught is the operative word.

Also, have ten thousand dollars in cash in your car and get stopped by the cops. Guess what's going to happen? They are going to seize it and you then have to go to court and prove it's yours legally. Guilty until proven innocent.

So then tell us, when was jesus born and how did that particular date come about?
