We extract oil -- her life's blood -- from the earth, we cut down trees that pour oxygen into the atmosphere for us to breathe, we pollute the oceans, we dirty the air we breathe, we pour cement over her surface and erect buildings that smother her, we are cruel to animals and to each other....

To me, collectively speaking, we have been doing a piss-poor job of taking care of our "home". What is it going to take for us to become enlightened and to start treating our planet and each other with respect? To stop the destruction. (Will this pandemic help?)

What about our children? What will they inherit? Do we really think about that as we suck out oil and cut down trees and disfigure our planet? What will we be leaving our progeny to deal with?

I don't mean to sound doom and gloom. I'm just asking if you think we are good stewards of our planet. What are your thoughts, good or bad?

Are we good stewards? Would the earth be better off without us?

Would it be better off with no life on it at all? The sunset would be just as beautiful, even with no sentience to appreciate. But then, without us, there would be no adagio in g, or vivaldis 4 seasons, etc. Love, joy, hope.

All the best of things.

Gotta take the good with the bad. That said, I think we certainly could be better. More conscious of our effect. I drive to work everyday, and now, instead of the usual fast food trash on the side of the road, I am treated to discarded used masks and gloves.

No, the evidence speaks for itself, and it will continue until Jehovah steps in to stop it...

But the nations became wrathful, and your own wrath came, and the appointed time came for the dead to be judged and to reward your slaves the prophets and the holy ones and those fearing your name, the small and the great, and to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” Revelation 11:18

Hope springs eternal. We are relatively unique in our ability to overcome our instincts, when it suits us.

There certainly aren't any other critters on the planet that would do a better job, unless you count nihilism as an improvement.

I generally don't disagree with anything you posted, but this one part is rather bizarre.

How the heck is oil the "earth's life's blood"???

Isn't that's just silly on many levels.

For the earth,, of course not.

The earth needs ignorant species, some humans apply, I think some might even be on this site.
Survival of the fittest, no inventions other than primitive tools.

To me it has to do with balance. Like the ecosystem. Everything has a place, and all things affect all other things. Take out one part of the process and the rest gets put out of balance.

Oil lubricates. Why are there many many earthquakes happening in those areas where they are doing fracking?

I believe that all systems on our planet are interdependent. I think of oil as earth's life's blood because it just makes sense.

I like that phrase: hope springs eternal. Thanks for the post.

Seems to me that we weren't put on the planet to destroy it. To be ignorant about how to use resources wisely in order to sustain life on it.

I can't imagine that God wants us to pillage and plunder such a beautiful place, in ignorance of what we are doing. Sometimes I just have to get on a soapbox about how ignorant and myopic humans get. And how greedy. I think the American Indians knew how to respect Mother Nature and the land.

This is nice:

We are the land … that is the fundamental idea embedded in Native American life … the Earth is the mind of the people as we are the mind of the earth. The land is not really the place (separate from ourselves) where we act out the drama of our isolate destinies. It is not a means of survival, a setting for our affairs … It is rather a part of our being, dynamic, significant, real. It is our self …

um how is oil the earths life blood? i get extracting it and using it can be bad for the environment and more importantly us but its just old dead stuff

Our planet is a living thing. It is called Gaia. Just as in our human bodies, we have cartilage to help our joints move with ease. When the cartilage is damaged --such as from over use-- then what happens is you get stiff and start having problems moving your joints. I've had two hip replacement operations because of absolutely no cartilage left in my hip joints. We also have other natural occurring things in our body that helps with movement, and with our life itself. Our entire system stays in balance as long as all our parts are in balance. When we get out of balance, we get sick or we become limited in some way.

Take out nature's lubricant from underneath the dirt and what happens? It isn't old dead inert stuff.

The bigger picture is that there is a reason why the planet can sustain itself and it's because all of its systems work in harmony with each other. When humans start messing with that balance, you can't expect there not to be consequences.

That's basically what I mean by life's blood. Oil is a lubricant. It makes parts move more smoothly. Mess with nature's natural balance at your own peril. Makes sense to me, but I can understand if people believe differently.

Thank you. That is nice to know. ;)

no its not its a radioactive metal ball surrounded by molten rock with a thin rocky crust

and that harmony is the result of a lot of death and upheaval heck 02 being released by life caused a mass extinction large scale eruptions causes at least 1 other mas extinction

the forces that keep the thin Little layer we live on livable might be complex and vulnerable to change but it dosnet make the planet alive

think its the pumping of Liquids and gasses and the removal of what was in the ground that lead to insensibility from oil extraction

yes its currently in are best interest to be careful with the world but even without us the conditions that let us live hear are going to brake down and shift violently even b4 that

Mother Nature is powerful, indeed. At least we both agree that it is in the best interest of humanity to be careful how we treat the world we live in.
