Is Christian a synonym for evangelical fundamentalists or are there other Christians as well?

Again and again I have seen the term "Christians" applied to evangelical fundamentalists only, as if it were a synonym for Christians and there were no other Christians beside them anywhere.

So here now is a poll on this topic.

Iwould like to copy this here:
I would like to repeat: :)

I am not anti-Christian.
I am a Catholic, and so I am a Christian myself.
If I were anti-Christian, then I would be anti-myself.

What I oppose strongly is the use of the word "Christian" as a synonym for evangelical fundamentlists.
By suggesting that only they are Christians one insults all other Christians beside those evangelical fundamentlists.
There are a lot more Christians out there in this word beside evangelical fundamentalists.

Please note. :)

No. Most of my family are Christians, and few of them are fundies. My mom is Christian, yet she believes most people, regardless of their beliefs, are going to heaven, that god looks at our heart, our soul, rather than who we believe in.

Bad form to be the first two responses to your OP!

Thank God for that! :peace

No, and the poll left out an option.

Ironically the most Christian people are those who do not subscribe to any faith whatsoever, they are simply good people because they can be without some imaginary friend telling them so.

By now I have come to the conclusion that the whole thing is not so much a religious but a linguistic problem.

As it seems, those evangelical fundamentalists have captured and usurped the term "Christians" for themselves, and themselves only.
There is nothing that we could do about it.
It is a mindset.
Those evangelical fundamentalists live in a small world of their own, not accessable to any reason or arguments.

The best thing we can do is to watch them in silence and with a degree of amusement.

Being a Christian is not just a title...it's a way of life...Acts 19:9...

The evangelical sects are the conspiracy theorist of Christendom.

I fully agree! :)
But I would not dare to say so myself any longer!:mrgreen:

4 out of 4 voters say: no, there are also other Christians :peace

I am pleasantly surprised! :peace

I was beginning to doubt that myself!

@ Christian as a synonym for evangelical fundamentalists

When I first came across this most silly opinion, I was surprised about such utter stupidity
And I thought: This person must be completely un-educated
Someone who has zero knowledge of religion
And I thought this was a rare case of un-usual stupidity

next stage:
When I realized that this was the norm with many such evangelical fundamentalists, I grew angry about their arrogance.
How can they!
How dare they!
How can they be so arrogant as to think they are the only Christians on earth?

next stage:
I tried to argue with them
That only leads to frustration
These people cannot be reached by reason and arguments

next stage:
I have given up arguing
This leads nowhere
So I regard those people with mild amusement and do not take them seriously any more.
Better that way,

Ya know what they say about people who argue with themselves...:screwy

This was on a German forum.
An isolated incident.

On US-forums this kind of utter stupidity is far more common, I fear.

Still it is 5 members who say: no, there are also other Christians

I hope there will be more who think so.

Yes, there are thousands of shades of Christian.

Evangelicals believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible when even the Bible has lots of metaphors in it that were put in intentionally but the authors. But they can believe what they want.

Do you not see that the universal Church strayed from the original Christian Church or Bible?

Do yourself a favor and google Martin Luther, I think that may clear some things up for you

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but fundamentalist Christians will usually quote scripture and religious doctrine from the old testament and prophets such as Isiah or Jonah, not the new testament. It's rare for a alt-right conservative Christian to quote passages from Matthew, Mark, Luke or John as to the teachings of Jesus Christ. They follow the old testament because the prophets were men that 'spoke to God' when in reality they were leaders of the Jews that needed to control the masses of people during those times in order to get people in line and to rule over them.

It depends, did that group do something horrific??? Lol

Christians like to cherry pick who they consider a Christian..

Let it be a great figure and the definition is not so strict, let it be a Jim Jones or hitler and theology matters.
