Are Catholics also Christians?

Sometimes when a question is difficult to answer, it’s just because it’s a bad question.

The question of whether Catholics are real Christians is a little like first graders at school wondering if Little Jimmy’s boogeyman is a real boogeyman like everybody else’s. You can see how that discussion will go on forever. Talk about a waste of time.

It's a legitimate question, and there are some good answers here. It's not a question of "whose boogeyman is real", it's a question of what Christianity is or is not. Your opinion is irrelevant.

Oh, yes. I think he needed to rationalize his personal and dynastic decisions. Those rationalizations were the beginning of his grandiosity. The House of Tudor was not yet secure, and he had to produce a male heir. Henry's charges of treason against her were trumped up, I think; her real crime was producing only a daughter and then having 3-4 miscarriages. Time for Henry to move on, and he had to get rid of her.

Oh for sure..

His penis just highlighted the fact , even as king he still had someone else he had to ask for permission..

Now that I think about it , if not henry, some other king makes the jump pretty quickly anyway.

Great discussion, sorry I came to it late. I was raised in a strong Italian-American family of Catholics and live in the SE US, were there aren't as many Catholics.

My dad used to say, "I was an adult before I found out that Protestant was one word. I was always taught it was God-damned Protestants." For Catholics, the word Protestant just means "Christian, but not Catholic." Because of the bigotry of the different waves of immigrants who came to the US, the southern Europeans (mostly Catholic) faced anti-Catholic prejudice pretty strongly. Also, the southern US settlers(mostly poor British) Europeans saw a great deal of prejudice themselves. These two sides should have been natural allies, but as it often goes, they competed for dwindling resources and ended up on opposite sides. In the small city I live in northern Florida, there is one large catholic church and a million small protestant churches. And much animosity between the two groups.

FWIW, the Catholic Church in the US is seeing a major downturn. Most of my friends from my catholic church days have become lapsed Catholics. It seems that the Catholic Church lost their way sometime in the 1980s and has been bleeding members ever since.

That is all religions across the board, sans the new age groups and cults that haven’t reached the peak of their bell curve..

All religions pretend god is hiding in a dark corner of our scientific understanding... where our understanding stops, god starts..

He used to make the sun and tides rise and fall before we understood calculus...

Now he is hiding in dark matter and quantum mechanics..

It is all nonsense

There isn't anyone who believes the Bible is 100% literal. If they did they would believe we are literal goats and sheep, Jesus is a farm animal, we're cannibals when we take communion, etc.

You realize some Catholics also believe they are the only "true" Christians, right?

There are people in all denominations who think they are the only ones going to heaven. It's not just evangelicals. If you think they are the only ones then you need to expand your horizons outside of your own bubble.

Are you a Christian?

Spoken like someone who doesn’t pay attention lol..

There are large swaths of American evangelicals who believe that, some on here and will say so I bet.

And speaking of that, Henry was quite the fashionista and led the codpiece trend.

Who believe what?

Not to mention he was HAWT in The Tudors, but judging from his portrait, wasn't all that good-looking.

Catholics are the only Christians. Orthodox Church is schismatic and Protestants are heretics.

Well, I would never go as far as saying that.
I think we Christians should never deny our fellow Christians the worthy and honourable title: CHRISTIAN!

Yes, a monotheist religion like Christianity believes they are correct. However, we're talking about the subgroups or denominations of Christianity. No, not all Christians believe their denomination is the only group of "true" Christians.

So was I..

Upon further consideration you do have smaller nondenominational sects with far more lax theology, but concerning the big established sects... Baptist’s, Methodists, Catholics, pinacostals, exc..

Most of those think everyone but them is gonna burn..

People forget the vast majority are supposed to burn.. only a fraction of a percent is supposed to be left for Jesus’s reign..

That isn’t new news, but Everyone just thinks they will make the cut..

And not according to Jesus' own words...Matthew 7:13-23...

Again back to the whole

“ I am smarter/more godly than 99.999999% of Christians over 99.9999% of its history. Even though I got every spec of theology from those people doing it wrong..”

Lol

Yes, Jesus was/is smarter...;)

Definitely not started by someone well endowed lol.

The guy who is packing was not the first one to think, “ man I gotta cover this up.. it is just too impressive..”

Lol

Guaranteed it was the guy ashamed of his lack of a bulge while tights were in fashion.

View attachment 67276520

From the Tudor Society:

As a young man, Henry VIII was considered to be the most handsome prince in Europe. He was tall, standing at six foot two which was taller than the average man of the time. He was broad of shoulder, with strong muscular arms and legs, and had striking red/gold hair. It is said that rather than looking like his father, he resembled his grandfather the late Edward IV. In the armoury of the Tower of London is a suit of armour that Henry wore in 1514. The king's measurements show that he had a waist of 35 inches and a chest of 42 inches, confirming that Henry was a well-proportioned, well-built young man. The Physical Decline of Henry VIII by Sarah Bryson - The Tudor Society

He was extremely athletic and a great dancer too who was very vain about how good-looking his legs were. Really, he was quite the "Renaissance Man"--poet, lyricist, and author too. His tract written to Martin Luther is what earned him "Defender of the Faith."

I addressed that in an edit.. you were just super fast..

You're probably right. And some of the bulges when codpieces were in fashion were just ridiculous. 'Intended to induce awe': codpiece thrusts itself back into fashion | Fashion | The Guardian

Good in combat as well if memory serves before his decline..

Though I will say there could be more than a little propaganda there too.. women are more attracted to power than men on average. That attraction can definitely turn a 6 into an 8.
