The Magic Oil Bible

Oil Bible?

A Bible for EXXON and SHELL etc ...

Ah yes, nothing quite like a political/ideological hit-piece disguised as "Beliefs and Skepticism".

What 's this all about?

I just read this:

At one point, Jerry fell down on the floor for 45 minutes in a kind of catatonic state that he describes as being “out in the Spirit.” Within a few days, he told me, he opened his Bible to Psalm 39—an uneasy poem of both praise and gloom that includes the words “every man at his best state is but vapor”—and noticed a small spot of oil. Joyce assured him the grandkids hadn’t been near the book. It could only have come from God.

From then on, more oil appeared almost every time Jerry picked up the Bible, a leather-bound copy of the New King James translation. The oil moved to the back of the book, saturated the endpapers—a heart-shaped splotch appeared over a map of Israel—and then started at the beginning, in Genesis 1. Eventually Jerry had to put the book in a Ziploc bag, and then in a large plastic bin he bought at Tractor Supply.

The oil Bible of Dalton, Georgia: How a miracle fell apart.

OMG!

Every Christian should be ashamed that those idiots also call themselves Christians.

I like the part where these folks feel like they are helping god out. Just goes to show you how many folks think with their emotions.

That is the essence of spirituality. It is no different than people going out of their way to recycle even though most of it ends up in landfills anyway. As long as they believe they are doing right, it adds value to their lives.

No it's not the essence of spirituality, it's the essence of gullibility. I'm not a religious person at all, don't believe in any gods but I consider myself spiritual. I try my best to do others no wrong and that has nothing to do with religion.

Religion is one type of spirituality. Secular spirituality is another. You just hate religion and religious people. Perhaps you should re-evaluate your not doing others wrong thing considering you are attacking people for adding value to their lives in a manner different than you personally do.

Good god another wacko. Did you just pull the I hate religion and religious people out of your arse or do you know me that well? I don't hate anyone. I stated my opinion and you filled in the rest.

No you are very bitter. A fake religious relic is no different than a fake recycling program. They are all about making the believers believe.

Ritual is what happens when we run out of rational...

Ok but if I need fake stuff to make me feel better about my religion/spirituality, that doesn't say much for the religion.

I'm bitter because I don't believe what you do. I think you are projecting.

No you are just bitter. You don't know what I believe. BUt thanks for reminding me I need to do the recycling so I can feel good about my connection to the universe and exorcise my guilt for buying milk in plastic gallon jugs.

Ok, you recycle and I'll pray your brain starts working better.
