Paganism has been included in an official school religious education

Paganism has been included in an official school religious education syllabus for the first time.

Cornwall Council has told its schools that pagan beliefs, which include witchcraft, druidism and the worship of ancient gods such as Thor, should be taught alongside Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

And after double maths it will be... paganism: Schools told to put witchcraft and druids on RE syllabus | Daily Mail Online

I think it only fair! :)

If Christianity, Islam and Judaism is taught, why not Paganism as well! :)

Be careful of the Daily Mail my friend, for it is more full of crap than a Christmas Goose. No doubt it will be presented as one of the world's belief systems along with Christianity, Hinduism and Zoroastrianism, but it is hardly anything to be concerned about. The curriculum in this subject is diverse, as it should be and I don't find this all that newsworthy myself.

For once...I would like it if it is made clear in the post that the subject is taking place OUTSIDE OF THE US so I don't waste my time.

Paganism should NOT be taught in school.

Christianity, Islam and Judaism should NEVER be be taught in school.

This is stuff that should be taught in home or in church/synagogue/temple/mosque.

Keep religion out of our schools.

I have just come across this article which is from a few years ago.
I will now try to find out what the present situation is. :)

Christianity, Islam and Judaism should be be taught, too.

Maybe you forgot a "NOT!" in your second line?

Should Paganism be taught in Schools?

Sure. In history classes, as a cultural thing.

Also.
Pagan. From Latin "Pagus" ("village" or "country district"). Orignally from the time when the cities of the Roman Empire were becoming Christians while country folk kept to their old ways. This seems to have been a recurring theme in the spread of Christianity in Europe. "Paganus" was intended as a slur (akin to "country bumpkin") and was used in this sense at least since the time of Cicero, when non-urban Romans were already considered backwards compared by those who lived in Rome itself.

Assuming the OP article is accurate, you have to laugh at Christians for doing this to themselves. This entire debate could have been easily avoided if one went to church for that purpose then to school for an education.

Btw: I see you are from Sheffield! :)
Give my kindest regards to beautiful Yorkshire then! :peace

Yorkshie does not need it. It is already God's country. The most holy land in the whole universe.

If you teach any religion in school, then all should be taught.

I think teaching about religion, especially in relation to different cultures in different places and/ or times is a great thing. I'm even for religious studies classes that teach specifically about as many different religions as they can within that time, not dedicating any extra time to a single one nor advocating any particular one.

May that be as it may be.

But why do you reject kind regards?
Do you not wish any kind regards from "dirty foreigers" any more?
Sorry about my friendly greeting.

Not withstanding the Daily Mail rhetoric, I found this statement painfully ironic; "But the council’s initiative has dismayed some Christian campaigners, who are alarmed that a religion once regarded as a fringe eccentricity is increasingly gaining official recognition.". Maybe they do need to spend more time learning about the history of Christianity.

In general terms, children learning about a wide range of religious beliefs strikes me as a very positive thing that should be encouraged. Ignorance breeds contempt.

Everytime a christmas tree is put up and adorned paganism is practiced...

My children learned all about paganism, both in school and from me...
