Celibacy - in the Catholic Church - and elsewhere

No it does not.

People who refrain from having sex with adults to whom they are attracted are not suddenly transformed into pedophiles.

But as clerics, they are unable to overtly pursue sex with adults...and the young are right there, to be take advantage of and can be more easily manipulated into silence. IMO the predation is mostly by straight clerics, esp. since the ratio of straight to gay clerics in the Catholic cult is higher.

IMO it is mostly opportunism...much like straight prison inmates who have gay sex.

It has always been a job, no matter the claimed motivation.

What is the Catholic Priesthood?
I know, I've taught priests for many years. We therefore return to our question what is the Catholic Priesthood? As the fundamental question that needs to be answered if we are to say anything else significant about those persons whose office the Church still believes is not of human invention but of divine origin. The priesthood is simultaneously four things, it is a sacrament of the new law instituted by Christ, it is a state of life to which some men are called by a special vocation from God, it is an institution without which there would be no Christianity on earth today. And it is a ministry of the Catholic Church by which Christ continues His own priestly work of saving and sanctifying the souls for whom He shed His blood on Calvary.

The priesthood, as priests used to be told and the faithful should know this too. The priesthood is not an occupation; it is not a job; it is not an employment. It is not even a profession. It is the most sublime vocation to which God can call man. And those who respond and are ordained remain priests forever no matter what may happen to their mind or body or even their souls.

It is a job. There are required duties to perform and the church provides a living for those who take on the job. Some priests find they don't like the job and quit, just like any other job. So they no longer are priests and are no longer authorized to perform priestly duties. The church uses a lot of puffery in describing a job done by ordinary men.

From what I know, you can of course leave the job.
But not stop being a consecrated priest.

i know what a priest is SUPPOSED to be

a lot of he are NOT

I think Jesus is coming back soon because of all the crazy, antichrist stuff going on in the Catholic Church... and everywhere else

Enforced celibacy is in-human.

That's what it is!

Enforced celibacy is in-human.

That's what it is!

who forces any man to be a priest?

who forces a woman to be a nun?

please

I'm neither but have been celibate for a "long" time (you would say it was an eternity.. but I won't say exactly how long bc I know you would say that is an eternity... sex is not the greatest thing in the world... like some seem to think)

Again:
Enforced celibacy is in-human.
That's what it is.

Enforced celibacy is unrealistic and misguided. It is very questionable to think that refraining from sex is in any way advantageous in trying to become closer to god or that sex and marriage is detrimental in becoming close to god.

Here we are of exactly the same opinion! :peace
