What did Christopher Hitchens learn when he died?

Why watch an old video where two people discuss their opinions? Are you wanting me to take up one side and defend it?

Not at all. I enjoy learning and felt one or two others may also have a love of learning.

I have not done a deep dive here so I might be wrong but I was reading recently that the brain dies slowly usually, and that when we die we will experience the death of the brain. This is what all of those stories told by those who "Come back from the dead" are about. When we were still a Christian people these stories were often told as stories of seeing heaven, or being on the way to heaven.

Every poster, me as well, should in all honesty admit we did not die yet so the question is still open.

More from me on dying.

Mom came the closest to persuading me of an after life than any other Democrat has.

Moms father was in the 1930s a Communist. Naturally he did not EVER believe he could change from a Communist to a God believer.

What changed my mom's view on this topic was she was suddenly awake at night and woke up dad.

She told him her brother was just killed by a River bank. She had no way of hearing it from a letter, spoken word, etc.

We got a letter from the Army perhaps 2 weeks later that declared my uncle was missing in action. Later on the Army sent Grandma and my Grand a telegram saying he was found and dead. It took months for the Army to send his remains for burial.

Mom nailed it since it happened in the first few days of combat in Korea.

That was not good enough for me.

Nope, no sir Bobby.

It was not first located by me using google.

When I looked at the Army records of his day of death, it confirmed Mom was correct.

She saw him face down in the rice paddy next to the river at Taejon Korea. His Army records confirmed he blew up a bridge with his team of experts and trying to escape the Army of North Korea was shot to death and died in the rice paddy she described. After the Army records report, clearly what she saw was a short time past him being shot.

She said he told her he just died. But not to worry since he died fast and tell the family he is alive in a better world.

Ah yes ghost stories.

Christopher definitely clung to being an Atheist. So when he died, what did he learn from the experience?
Your brain needs to function in order to learn anything, and by definition, dead brains do not function.

Or, to put it another way: Dead people can't learn anything. They're too busy being dead.

He learned there is our GOD.
Or, he didn't, because your deity, like every other deity, is merely a myth and a fiction.

Of course, per the stipulation listed above, you won't be able to learn that when you die, because dead people don't learn. See how that works?

Ah yes ghost stories.

I am not clear Mom claimed to see Ghosts. But there was something mind blowing about Mom. For her first experience, she said she had a sister maybe 2-3 years her elder that was taken to the hospital where she lived. Said sister woke up Mom early one AM and they chatted for a time. At first mom had no awareness her sister had just died.

Mom told her parents of the early AM chat. Grandma and Grandpa drove to the hospital expecting their daughter could recover. When the hospital informed them at the hospital, said sister had died. Said the time of death was the time Mom talked to her sitting on her bed as if she was alive.

I believe it was 1954 when I saw her proclaim to Dad, Jim, you answer the phone call. It is to inform me my father died. Father being hers, not mine.

Dad picked up the store telephone and the hospital informed him of the death of grandpa.

I recall the store phone well since many of the customers dispatched their children to pick up groceries. It was fairly routine since Mom ran the story like Cash or Carry. Mom would bill the customer at the end of the month. So often I never dreamed my grandpa had just died. Mom also had connection to one aunt who resided in Oklahoma while Mom and we kids lived in the SF Bay Area. Said aunt also talked to mom at the time she died.

Why bother with... what exactly?

It's not like the point of my post is particularly obscure, nor is it obscured by using a generic term for a supernatural entity.

That cleared up everything. So you actually believe in the supernatural??

Christopher definitely clung to being an Atheist. So when he died, what did he learn from the experience? He had cancer yet it is reported he died due to pneumonia contracted in a Texas hospital.

Let's try to do it as he loved to do, claim and explain his views.

So let's start with what Atheists say .... He learned absolutely nothing.

He learned there is our GOD. PLEASE, this serious stuff since he died as a young man. Given the longevity of man, he could have lived much longer but his Cancer was why he was in the hospital. So confine it to the God that was around first so let's not ask about many GODS. We want to focus on ONE god.

Some of you may not be aware he died in 2012.

To help this start out correct, while he no longer talks, he has talked, and a lot.

Suppose when he died, since he preached there is no such thing as GOD, his fate was to die, actually get to visit GOD, and GOD forgave him? OR, GOD told Christopher, since you do not believe in me, I also do not believe in you. Thus Christopher could have actually lived in the after life as opposed to learning had he believed, GOD could have included Chris in the Afterlife.

Anyway, we have a still living excellent debater in his analytical skill to help us get to the bottom.

TAke this journey hoping to persuade us of his view or choose Dinesh view of this matter.

This will provide you with an excellent base of thinking. The video can perhaps give you life later, though not as man lives here on Earth, but something else glorious and new to you.

I have chatted with many posters, some whom died even after they chatted to me on the internet.

An Example is Don. Don is a very intelligent man who wrote recently and published a book speaking of him watching his wife die from disease. Ask me if you would be interested in any of his books.

Don once was a flag rank Air force Officer. A heck of a nice man. I got to know him when Bill Clinton was president.

So on to the show. Dinesh and Christopher debated on the stage at Notre Dame University in America.

Enjoy it and let us all hear your side. If you think Christopher won, say so. If you think Dinesh won, let us know.

There is nothing to learn, no gods, no heaven, no hell, nothing. He donated his body to science and that was it. The end, over, out, done and nothing else.

Consciousness ends at death, so there is nothing.

Consciousness ends at death, so there is nothing.

In spite of the lies you may have been told by some, that is exactly what the Bible says...

Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might, for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave, where you are going." Ecclesiastes 9:10

"The dead do not praise Jah; Nor do any who go down into the silence of death." Psalm 115:17

"His spirit goes out, he returns to the ground; On that very day his thoughts perish." Psalm 146:4

I used to debate Christianity on a site called CARM and gave up because it always became a circular argument. What happened was that one had to play a game and debate scripture AS IF it was true that every sentence was inspired by their "God". What that does is to require the non believer to assume facts not in evidence and concede that the bible verses were somehow mandated or inspired by their Christian God without one bit of proof that they ever were, unless you use the very document in dispute.....the BIBLE as "proof" that the words were inspired. For those who challenge this assumption (like assuming Trump colluded with Russia or wanted Ukraine to investigate Biden because he feared him in an election) they would then say that the bible MUST be completely true because many of the prophecies have been proven to be true. For those who aren't bible aficionados this ruse works or used to until the advent of the internet where one can research each alleged prophecy and find every single one of them has holes in it. Actually, the internet IMHO is largely responsible for the declining of Christianity in America because statements and claims can be easily refuted by novices by entering key phrases and finding refutations of claims either in print or videos made by people like the great Hitchens and others like him.

When all is said and done, there is no way to know what happens after we die. I am a deist by preference and really an agnostic deist meaning I don't know and don't care, because the question is ultimately unknowable. What I am certain of and which will anger the believers is that both Christianity and Islam, the two major religions are complete fabrications based on fear and the need for power and controlling the masses. What this Christian God is is an invisible police man useful for keeping those who would do wrong in check by having them believe that they will be punished after death for theft, murder and the like.

The bible agrees. Ecclesiastes 9:5

There is nothing to learn, no gods, no heaven, no hell, nothing. He donated his body to science and that was it. The end, over, out, done and nothing else.

Yeah, it takes all kinds.

Clearly he put to the test his own concepts.

Nope, there is nothing there so not really put to the test. And as the pope said, even atheists can go to heaven (not that they believe in heaven) but it is a fact that there are many atheists are better people than a good deal of christians.

What the pope says is in direct conflict with what the Bible says...John 3:16...

I would say that many on this site prove that claim. The irrational hatred and overt bigotry directed toward the atheist community is somewhat mediaeval in nature, and would in no way be tolerated if it was directed toward any other minority. However, if one is an atheist, believers can be as belligerent and as objectionable toward that individual as they like, and without redress.

the bible is not all knowing, it is a book written and thought up by people/men. Also, isn't the pope infallible? And as he is infallible, he must be right. At least according to the vatican.

lol...the pope is not all knowing, he is merely an imperfect man who makes mistakes just like the rest of us...
