The sign of the cross

Traditions and rituals have more to do with superstition...like kissing the cross or rosary beads, making the sign of the cross...sincerely believing does not change wrong into right nor do man-made items have superhuman powers...

"Every man acts unreasonably and without knowledge.
Every metalworker will be put to shame because of the carved image;
For his metal image is a falsehood,
And there is no spirit in them.
" Jeremiah 10:14

"Although claiming they were wise, they became foolish and turned the glory of the incorruptible God into something like the image of corruptible man and birds and four-footed creatures and reptiles. Therefore, God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness, so that their bodies might be dishonored among them. They exchanged the truth of God for the lie and venerated and rendered sacred service to the creation rather than the Creator, who is praised forever. Romans 1:22-25

Superstition is from fear and ignorance, straining out gnats and swallowing camels.

There is a very funny site which I think is/was called "godisimaginary.com" that used what I think is a great analogy and even had a picture of a milk jug alongside a picture of "God" in a flowing robe and beard and challenged anyone to prove that praying to "God" OR a milk jug made any difference other than how a person FEELS.

I capitalized FEELS because in the final analysis, religion is all about feelings. Just as is leftism. People like good feelings, of course, and all feelings are self induced. One may CLAIM that feelings come from their "God" but it is just that.....a claim based on conditioning and beliefs. I challenge anyone here to prove that their feelings of love, hate, anger, sadness, exuberance, or anything else comes from anyone but the individual.

I was correct on the site this is at and it is an amusing read, except for those who are die hard believers. Here is a direct link to the milk jug analogy:

God is Imaginary - 50 simple proofs

I wasn't converted by this site. I had made up my mind long before I found it that the CHRISTIAN god is imaginary. But........I firmly believe that anyone who IS a Christian and reads the entire site with an open mind would have to be converted. However..........it is just like politics. He who is convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still.

A cross is not a graven image. The apostle Paul said that the cross represented faith in Christ. However, a crucifix with Christ on it is a graven image and should not be acceptable for Christians.

Well, it seems to me that Jesus wouldn't like to be reminded of the cross. I can just imagine it.. Jesus comes back, sees all these representations of the Cross, and say 'I am not going through that again', and just leaves without saying anything else.

And that, is only YOUR claim.

A CLAIM is something that cannot be proven. It is a statement, a belief, like an impeachment. Speculation, assumption, presumption.

A FACT is something that is obvious and apparent and logical and provable. For instance, those who hate Trump. Is hate a real thing or is it a feeling? If you say it is real, can you touch it? Can you show it anywhere but inside your head? You cannot. Nor, can you assert that it is Donald Trump GIVING you this hate. That cannot be true because almost half of the rest of the humans would say Trump makes them feel love and pride. Thus, it is demonstrably true and not just a CLAIM that your feelings are self generated based on your beliefs and needs at the time.

When we fall in love, is it the other person giving us those butterflies or is it our brain creating endorphins based on our emotions and expectations of future happiness based on the evolutionary need for humans to procreate?

The same thing with prayer. In spite of no proof at all that prayer works, we are told that it does by our parents and pastors/priests. We have a belief and an expectation. Like the famous milk jug experiment society has conditioned us that "God" can answer "Yes, No or Maybe" which is what you get with a Ouji board or a milk jug. The ONLY reason we don't dismiss this as hogwash is because these powerful influences will berate and scorn us if we don't believe. Why? Because their beliefs are fragile and can't stand up to scrutiny. This is how they control others. Leftists use the same tactics. Be on the lookout for those who use slurs and ridicule and ostracizing. Religion and leftists have honed these skills to perfection to control mankind.

Yeah, I know, everything is a conspiracy. For the people who say the Church "controls" people, I ask this: how is that working out for them? Catholics are still using birth control. Baptists can still be seen at the liquor store. Lutherans are not in Church every Sunday. How many people tithes?

The only organizations that have complete control over their members are the cults and the DNC.

I agree. However, the cross is significant for what it stands for. It is not how He died that is significant, but why He was sacrificed by choice to save the world from sin. Because of the act, we were bridged to God and that is why some Christians maintain its visibility.

Control is the use of an imaginary being that will answer your prayers (or not depending on his mood) and that you will fry in hell if you are bad. The people you speak about are not real Christians.

Good point! :peace

Absolutely not...I find it disgusting and probably not what Jesus died on anyway, it was a stake, and upright beam, more than likely...I would no sooner wear a cross than I would wear a replica of a gun around my neck that killed a loved one...the way I live me life is a reminder to others...

"Through him let us always offer to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that make public declaration to his name. Moreover, do not forget to do good and to share what you have with others, for God is well-pleased with such sacrifices." Hebrews 13:15,16

So do you abhor all similar symbols, or could you wear a fish or something similar around your neck?
Just wondering if it's the pain/death symbolism, or a "graven images" thing.

Do you know the Brigid's cross?
Brigid's cross - Wikipedia

People are gonna think I'm some kind of neo-nazi nut to keep bringing this up, but considering her feast was at Imbolc (Celtic New Year), we are probably back at some type of swastika/sun cross again (Swastika representing the year).

People used to place lightning stones* in straw roofs to protect their houses from fire.
So the god who is associated with lightning, the turning of the year, and whose symbol is various iterations of the swastika, is also the god who protects against fire.

For extra weirdness point, Thor, the Norse god of thunder, who drives the Big Dipper and so turns the year, may at one point have been female (though I doubt if Marvel script writers know that), and the proto-germans *did* tend to steal an awful lot of cultural/mystical stuff from the Celts.

* = A lightning stone is a type of petrified mollusc, and were believed to be stone that had melted where the tip of lightning had struck.

No, it's both...

Well, I suppose one should be careful with graven images.
Saint Vitus was a young Sicilian boy who was boiled in lead for refusing to recant Christianity. He is often depicted with the cauldron he was boiled in, but unfortunately for him it looks like a potty, so he ended up the patron saint of bedwetters. I know few more striking examples of how original intent can sometimes get lost or misinterpreted over time. :)
