May I introduce the IPU:

The Invisible Pink Unicorn (IPU) is the goddess of a parody religion used to satirize theistic beliefs, taking the form of a unicorn that is paradoxically both invisible and pink.

She is a rhetorical illustration used by atheists and other religious skeptics as a contemporary version of Russell's teapot, sometimes mentioned in conjunction with the Flying Spaghetti Monste

The IPU is used to argue that supernatural beliefs are arbitrary by, for example, replacing the word God in any theistic statement with Invisible Pink Unicorn. The mutually exclusive attributes of pinkness and invisibility, coupled with the inability to disprove the IPU's existence, satirize properties that some theists attribute to a theistic deity.

Have you heard of the IPU?
And if so - what do you think of the idea?

According to the Pastafarians (Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster), The Cult of the Magenta Monohorned Equine is nothing more than a pagan sect that should be persecuted with punishments such as being dunked in a giant bowl of Ramen noodles.

I think It's sophomoric. As lowbrow as the Pastafarian crap.
Voltaire, who was a strident opponent of Christianity and considered one of the most intelligent people ever, said of God that "God is a circle whose center is everywhere and circumference nowhere."

Introducing the IPU:

Invisible Pink Unicorns are beings of great spiritual power. We know this because they are capable of being invisible and pink at the same time. Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

@ about Russell's tea pot:

If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes.

But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is an intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense.

If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time.

If that's true then the flying spaghetti monster and the invisible pink unicorn are both god and these religions are every bit as legitimate as more popular ones.

At what number of believers does an arbitrary religion stop being" sophomoric" and start being a "real" religion?

I wasn't talking about religion, I was talking about God. To stay with Voltaire, he said of religion that "Nothing can be more contrary to religion and the clergy than reason and common sense."
And the answer to your question is 1.

I think the Unicorn is just an updated version of the FSM and teapot. It's satire, yes. The images it uses may appear "sophomoric" to those who insist on taking offence. But it illustrates the universal point. The burden of proof is not on the unbeliever to disprove the unverifiable. "My' default position cannot be 'your' god exists because 'you' told me so. The burden of proof is on the believer.

Now anyone can believe what they want, I am not "anti religion". It is when they force their belief upon others - unbelievers or those of a different faith - it becomes a problem.

Yes this heresy needs to be stopped. We need an inquisition to purify the creed of the great FSM!

I think the IPU is a lovely idea.
A pleasant and fitting satire.
And no reason to take offence. :)

There is only one true pasta, the FSM.

It just so happens that when it comes to the tea pot, Musk put a teapot into the tesla he launched. He's just not saying, you know.
