So as not to cause issues in the Theology thread on Kanye, let's do this here.

To start:

So what's Kanye doing? Cashing in big time?

How's he different than Joel Osteen or any of the others who make crap-tons of money from religion?

Should he be respected, or viewed with a great deal of caution? Or is he flat out a con?

Or, is it too early to tell just yet?

From my perspective I just can't stand anything about him, or his whole deal, and his schtick.
So I view it all as nothing more than a money making machine with little to no substance or sincerity behind it.

They are all con men and there is a sucker born every minute.

Jonathan Morris a former priest and commentator on FOX was impressed with West's service and the way he inspired nones.

Kanye is stupid and completely full of ****... and a moron... and an idiot. The guy is literally a stupid twit.

I don't know why Kanye is a topic subject today, but the difference between Kanye and the straight-up con artists (like the Trump Family) is that Kanye has a product and marketable talent. He is genuinely gifted. Most con men are just straight-up con men.

I have heard that he has given religious sermons recently. He is such an egomaniac, he is more than likely to start a cult like most egomaniac religious leaders do.

Straight up con. He is doing whatever he can to stay relevant.

He mistakenly thought that by backing Trump, he could latch on to the idea that the right would start buying his albums. He was wrong, so this is just another get rich quick scheme.

My guess is that lots of people will send him money.

I hear West and Olsteen are going to work together.
Also worth noting that West thinks Trump is cool.
So I am cautiously going with "just another scam"

Question: What is the con here?

If someone makes a great money in religious donations that is willingly given to them, and the people giving the money know that they take some of the money and use it for their own expenses but continue giving it to them anyway, how is that any more of a con than giving money to a musician or other performing artist?

Fair point.

I do wonder though, is the money given now tax-free? Religious donation and all?

Where is Leah Remini when we really need her?

I don't think he's got a problem with relevance.
For whatever reason he's got a rather solid following of fans, plus the whole Kartrashian/Jenner machine doesn't hurt him either.

I think he's got an extreme narcissistic mental disorder, and probably some other mental disorders too.

I mean, he calls himself Yeezus.

And then there's this: http://https://screenrant.com/kanye-west-name-change-christian-genius-billionaire/

Kanye West may change his name legally to Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West

I think the con is that what is expressed to elicit donations is not sincere.
If the various preachers et al were open about putting on an act and it was all treated like entertainment, then there would be no con.

Is the whole ball of wax little more than a calculated marketing scheme to sell his music, clothing, and brand?

Wouldn't that be a "scam"?

That's the gist of it.
The scam is that the person before the crowd is saying insincere things to get money while hiding their insincerity from the crowd.

They are all con men and there is a sucker born every minute.

Yep. All the ****heads selling seats in heaven are frauds. And, yes . Suckers willing to throw good money down on those seats are born every minute.

That's a good point. I can't see why anyone would buy his music, but they do. That's their right. I can't see how anyone could fall for his religious crap. But they will. That's their right too.

A fool and his money are soon parted. Can we blame Kanye for standing there taking it from them? The fool will waste the money anyways. Why not waste it on Conye?

I mean, if all I had to do was stand at a street corner traffic signal, selling 5 lb. sacks of bull**** for 100.00 a bag, and all the cars pull up in line, handing me 100.00 dollar bills for a bag of crap out the driver's side window, I would be the fool for refusing to take their money. Basically, that's what Conye does. That's what he has always done. That is his profession.

Yeah. It's a con. He's a conman, so.....

Lesser mentally gifted people love a conman. It goes back for centuries. Old West travelling snake oil salesman always drew a crowd and sold bottles of snake oil. They made Wild Bill Cody, among other created legends, out to be wild west,, rootin'-tootin' wildman and put him in a tent with a bunch of native americans on horses, hooping and hollering, and made a fortune. People ate that **** up. Tiny Tim made a million looking stupid and singing Tiptoe the Tulips on a ukulele. Wanna buy a Pet Rock?

Hell, the trade of being a confidence man, in modern times, has become legitimized and even idolized. It is no longer considered a low-life profession. There also is no ceiling for a conman anymore. You could even be the President of the United States if your con is good enough.

I can't stand Kanye. Never could. I wish I was Taylor Swift's bodyguard and could have bitch-slapped that little punk when he crashed her stage during the awards ceremony. The guys is a media whore and a charleton. I think he would make for a GREAT preacher.

IMO each of those religious leaders (not Kanye) have different motivations. I do think many are genuinely religious, and have other motivations as well.

Some like political power (Falwell). Some like acclaim (Osteen). Some like money.

I suspect Kanye is feeling genuinely religious to a certain extent, but is such a twisted individual that it comes out as self-aggrandizement and disregard for the local parishioners.

I listen to his words (mostly when I cant avoid it) and hear alot of egotistical and rather moronic social "insights) and decide for myself.

Respect must be earned. Sad that so many others are willing to donate their $$ to him and similar blowhards.

Isn't he thinking about running for office?
