When you learn about Christianity from a child, you are taught the Old Covenant is the way it used to be, and the coming of Christ changes the laws.

There are some verses, 2, I believe in the New that speak of following the laws of the old,
but there are more that speak of putting away the laws of the old and starting new. from a few different sources.
No Christian church preaches the 613 laws of the Torah and Moses.

Basically what they are taught is that the OT is a history book of the times past, and the new, and coming of Christ, sets a new standard.

Um ... gotta be a trick question.

If you follow the whole Old Testament, well, is that even possible?

Much less trying to follow the New and all the Old.

If following the Bible literally, Old or New Testament, is required for being a devout Christian, then I don't know any devout Christians.

Christ set us free from the Law.

What is the Law? Love God and your neighbor as yourself.

I was a veggie when I was Presbyterian, does that make me a devout Christian.

The only devout Christians are the Adventists because they're vegetarian.

I’m not into stoning. So no, I say, I couldn’t be a devout Christian and follow both testaments to a tee.
But that’s just me.

Christians aren't obliged to follow various Old Testament requirements--e.g., ritual bathing, dietary restrictions, and etc. What specifically would be difficult for a Christian to follow in the New Testament (beyond the daily struggle not to be selfish or dishonest, I mean)?

Ya but you got to go to church with a bunch of meat heads.

Sorry, as you see, I took the comment down.

I might go to the Adventists, but they believe things like the Bible is inerrant or "word of god." So it's not so interesting, their philosophy, when they' want to indoctrinate you, tell you what the truth is now that you found it.

The JW's are worse in their idiocy, but they're not even vegetarian or observing the right Sabbath.

Yes, to understand why one has to understand the purpose of the Mosaic law...it was added to make transgressions manifest, until the seed should arrive to whom the promise had been made" Galatians 3:19...the Law, by designating the various wrongs that all men commit, made manifest that all are sinners and cannot live up to a perfect law...regardless of how a person lives...not stealing, not committing adultery or murder or any of the specially named violations...a person could not say that he never coveted or desired anything wrong...he knew that he was a sinner....thus it emphasized the need for a savior for mankind, and it led faithful ones to Jesus Christ as that Savior...it identified him as the only one who kept the Law perfectly, thus the only human who was sinless...animal sacrifices under the Law had only limited value, but as a perfect human, Jesus could offer his life as a sacrifice that would really remove sin and open the way to eternal life for all those exercising faith in him...John 1:29; 3:16; 1 Peter. 1:18, 19...

What is the right sabbath?

This is Bible 101. Christ and his New Testament supersede the Old Testiment.

Well, you'll have to ask ziggy man..he's the one who inspired this thread...

Nobody on this planet has the power to judge and determine who "christians" are

Tell that to ziggy man...:2razz:

David Bowie's alter ego is not participating in this train-wreck of a thread.

There wouldn’t be a New Testament without the Old Testament. It’s like God Father 1 and 2 no?

I have never claimed to be able to decide who is a good Christian or not, Exquisitor made that claim.
