[W:160:194]***Preachers Are Hosting a “Make America Straight Again” Event

Re: Preachers Are Hosting a “Make America Straight Again” Event

What amazes me is that the haters are the first ones to complain about "hate speech". You yourself attack me personally every chance you get then complain about my "un-Biblical" behavior.

"Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye."

At the rate you're going you'll have a lumberyard in your eye by the time you shuffle off that mortal coil.

Did you know that Jehovah's Witnesses have the worst record when it comes to charitable giving? That's why they don't tell anybody where they spend the money.

"So when you make gifts of mercy, do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your gifts of mercy may be in secret. Then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you." Matthew 6:2-4

Sorry, the JWs are a registered charity, they pay no taxes and they have to follow the law whether they like it or not. The point is, charity work is what I do, don't talk down to me about what you think my shortcomings are based on a few words until you've walked a mile in my shoes.

Re: Preachers Are Hosting a “Make America Straight Again” Event

No. It goes something like this... one Scotsman includes nutmeg when preparing his haggis, but another Scotsman uses allspice (two comparable spices). The first one claims that "no true Scotsman would use allspice in his haggis!"; i.e. the first Scotsman claims to speak for all Scotsmen in general, and in doing so infers the 2nd Scotsman isn't a true Scotsman.

OM

Thanks for the explanation, OM. And here I thought he was talking about the DP member TrueScotsman….lol... At the risk of exposing myself as a dumbass, I haven't heard this one before.

So...what if the haggis chat is taking place 2000 years after the invention of haggis, and the Scottish national recipe for haggis specifically says nutmeg, and the punishment for using anything else is that you're stripped of your citizenship?

Yes, I know I'm beating this analogy all to smithereens. I get there are differences between dominations, I understand that. But surely you must concur that there is a point where we're allowed to say "They are not us". If so, that would be kinda unique to our demographic (theists)...wouldn't it?

A sheep's heart and lungs cooked into its stomach is what makes haggis. :)

I know...it's delicious. I've also decided this metaphor is flawed as a means to describe the process of defining a religion.

Aw c'mon! I thought it was perfect!

No. It doesn't take into consideration a demographic's prerogative to self define, and it made me hungry for something my wife won't allow in the house. Imperfect in two directions. Bad OM!

Re: Preachers Are Hosting a “Make America Straight Again” Event

No. It doesn't take into consideration a demographic's prerogative to self define,

Sure it does. It takes into consideration the use of allspice in place of nutmeg, and to have the dish come out tasting totally legit!

That's the problem, though...given that the Christian "recipe" requires a significant measure of love, the hatred inherent in the behavior described in the OP would make the "dish" inedible. It's not a comparison of nutmeg to allspice. It's a comparison of nutmeg to antifreeze. Except, it's not just that.... You said haggis is heart and lungs cooked into a stomach...well, in Christianity, love is the stomach - it's what holds it all together. Given the complete absence of love in this behavior, I have to ask...is haggis still haggis with no stomach, or is it just a bunch of guts lying all over the place?

The Scotsman who considers himself a true Scotsman seems to have no problem including allspice in his haggis. The Scotsman who prefers nutmeg may not agree, but he doesn't have the authority to state so one way or the other.

Yes, I get how your analogy works...despite it not really being applicable in this case, for the reasons I stated. I would love to hear you address the points I make in your responses to my posts. ;)

The basis of my response was to explain to you what was meant by "true Scotsman". As I am not the one who actually accused you of invoking that particular logical fallacy, you'll have to take up your objections to it with him. :)

Re: Preachers Are Hosting a “Make America Straight Again” Event

Another 'preacher', and this one is also a cop - or was a cop until a video of one of his sermons became public.

Knox County DA 'looking into' detective's church sermon calling for execution of LGBTQ people

The Knox County Attorney General's Office said it is looking into a church sermon by a Knox County sheriff's detective that called for the government to arrest and execute LGBTQ community members.

In the hourlong sermon based on an Old Testament passage, Detective Grayson Fritts, also a pastor at All Scripture Baptist Church in Knoxville, told his congregation June 2 that he believes that federal, state and county governments should arrest, try, convict and "speedily" execute people within the LGBTQ community on no more grounds than a cell phone photo of a person participating in a Pride event.

No, sir, we've gone too far for that, our only options left at this point are either pistols at dawn, or fisticuffs at afternoon recess. Pick your poison.

Thanks for the explanation. :)

EDIT: Ok, Gina, I'm done! Though I don't think our portion was off topic. But just in case... ;)

Just wondering if those who call themselves "Christian" on this forum support these 'Christian' preachers and their ideology.

Florida is making itself more and more like Alabama every day. Is it not?

I know, I know, the quotes I'm providing here are from some wackjob atheist, so it is obviously nothing but lies. :roll

Here Are the Lowlights from Day 1 of the Anti-LGBTQ Christian Hate-Conference

The first speaker was Roger Jimenez, who said shortly after the Pulse massacre that the worst thing about it was that the shooter “didn’t finish the job.”
(. . .)
The media has done a good job at making you think these bunch of homos are just happy-go-lucky, they’re just a little flamboyant, they’re just kinda funny, they’re quirky, they’re nice. The Bible says that their conscience has been seared… that’s what it means to have a reprobate mind.

They’re insane. And they’re not insane like “I don’t know what I’m doing.” They’re insane like “A psychopath” insane… They’ll kill you and it won’t bother them. They’ll molest your kids and it won’t bother them. They’ll go to bed with men, with women, with animals. They’ll do whatever and it won’t bother them. Why? Because their conscience is seared…

Let me just say this: They are worthy of death… Let me go ahead and give the disclaimer: We are not advocating that you go out there and have violence against sodomites. That is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches that this is something that the government should do… [God] put the death penalty on homosexuality… We’re not advocating taking the law into your [own] hands. But here’s what we’re saying… If the government would put them to death, it would make America safe again

Pastor Aaron Thompson:
I’d love to be able to just work for [a transgender suicide hotline] for, like, a week and just let them know that, “Hey, it’s okay, go ahead and just kill yourself.” Because these people were sick!

What does fagg*t mean? I just Googled it, alright? A male homosexual is the number one answer, alright? Number two is a bundle of sticks or twigs bound together as fuel. So both definitions are correct. [Audience laughs.]

I don’t think all sodomites become sodomites because someone molested them. I think that they could become that way because they’re given over to a reprobate mind. But I think that there are a lot of people who get molested that do become homosexual. It’s just a fact.
