Human Arrogance & Egotism

The epitome of arrogance is self-reliance...Satan is the perfect example of arrogance...Satan loves it when humans imitate his arrogance...

Self-reliance is not arrogance.

I think all these religion threads are not really about religion. They are about human behavior and what motivates it. Man seems to be tribal, and that manifests itself in many ways. The bottom line is that we identify with a tribe, and we believe that tribe is superior. And this fuels our egos and can often manifest itself in arrogance. But l wouldn't single out religion.

How much of religion is human arrogance and/or egotism?

To think we're so special?
To think we matter so much?
To think we "know" what it's all about?

In the realm of the entire known Universe, and whatever may be beyond the known Universe, how arrogant must we be to think we're a chosen and special being within that space?

Why would Human Beings, on Earth, matter at all to anything that could possibly create the entirety of the known and the unknown?

Why would we think we're so special?

I'd say you make a pretty good case for not considering your thoughts and questions to be anything special.

So right from the very get-go:

Genesis 1 KJV - In the beginning God created the heaven - Bible Gateway

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

How is there not arrogance here?

If you believe this mythical story, it's dripping with arrogance.

Isn't that the oddest statement?

I was hoping she could explain it further, but alas she had nothing but biblical gobbledygook to offer. :(

Here is some more "gobbleygook" for you to ponder over...Proverbs 3...

1 My son, do not forget my teaching,
And may your heart observe my commandments,

2 Because they will add many days
And years of life and peace to you.

3 Do not let loyal love and faithfulness leave you.
Tie them around your neck;
Write them on the tablet of your heart;

4 Then you will find favor and good insight
In the eyes of God and man.

5 Trust in Jehovah with all your heart,
And do not rely on your own understanding.

6 In all your ways take notice of him,
And he will make your paths straight.

Too much "we" already. Include me out (as Sam Goldwyn is supposed to have been fond of saying).

You take this crap seriously. Honest, I find this both sad and frightening.

WTF is wrong with people? Truly a failed species.

No, the most successful species. The one which dominates all the others, for good or ill.

Well, we ARE special.

No other animal on earth is so vicious, cruel, selfish, stupid, cowardly, dishonest, and hypocritical.

HS has evolved a big brain allowing many of these traits - which are in any case by no means universal.

Some items on your list are simply wrong. Take selfish: ALL animals behave in ways which favour their - and their genes - survival; if they did not their species would soon go extinct.

Most creations in life come with a manual, humans do, too...the Bible...

Yes, all 'creations' , including Homo Sapiens, come with a manual ; it's called DNA. We can now read all these manuals and understand how life works. 'Holy books' have added nothing to our knowledge, science everything.

Really? You seem to be arrogant enough to think you are in no need of a manual...:2razz:

Thousands of years of science, logic, and reason are sufficient.

Along with skepticism, an open mind, and no blinders.

The building of knowledge over time by billions of people across the globe, and using that to grow, evolve, and formulate thoughts and ideologies.

There is no "manual". Claiming that is the height of arrogance. It's also misguided and rather ignorant.

We are not even near the most successful species. Good grief.

Even a cockroach is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy may successful.

People are so full of themselves that they, you cannot even be objective.

:doh

You guys need to define "success".

Have cockroaches landed on the moon?
Have cockroaches sent robotic vehicles to other planets?
Have cockroaches photographed Black Holes?

DNA cannot tell you how to live your life to benefit yourself...only the Bible can do that...

“I, Jehovah, am your God, the One teaching you to benefit yourself, the One guiding you in the way you should walk.” Isaiah 48:17

The vedas can too, as well as any book on ethics.

And can cockroaches modify their environment - clothes, shelters, fire - so that they can live anywhere?

The ultimate flaw of religion, the more we discover through science and systems of process the more we realize that all religion brings to the table is arrogant certainty with an amazing cost and influence into reasons to harm one another.

*All* of religion is human arrogance, egotism, and outright stupidity.

<facepalm>

The next time you're down and out try finding a BITTER ATHEIST'S HOMELESS SHELTER.
