The hijab is just another stupid religious symbol...I went to catholic school, the nuns wore hijabs too, but they called them habits.

Hijabs are 'stupid', and you want women and girls in NZ to wear them to show support of Muslims. Your posts are hot garbage.

Re: New Zealand Women Covering Their Hair for Solidarity with Muslims- How do You Feel About This?

What you have failed to understand is that while all hijabs are head coverings not all head-coverings as are hijabs.

OK, we can play games, or we can acknowledge that Kiwi women wearing hijabs did so because of Islam, and without Islam they wouldn't have worn them. Thus, they wore hijabs. There are hundreds of videos on YouTube of Islamic men trying to convince white women and girls to convert to Islam, and the air head Prime Minister just gave them the biggest boost to their goal they could've dreamed of.

That would be incorrect.

Habits are stupid too. Women having to wear head coverings at Buuddhist temples are stupid too.
I'm amsued too see how angry this makes you.

The women in NZ have free choice to do what they want.

I get that your claims are delusional, but even for you that’s a new low.

12 hours after the Charlie Hebdo massacre, Muslims at Al Jazeera weren't talking about the victims, or even the perpetrators. Instead they spoke of the need to keep the far right in check.

12 hours after the Christchurch attack, the Prime Minister was speaking of banning weapons, and wearing the hijab. Liberals in the West are the greatest gift to radical Islam.

Leave it to a western liberal to parade their virtue and solidarity in the most patronizing way imaginable.

I can think of several reasons why NZ women donning the attire of a Muslim woman is a bad idea, among them:

- Its insulting and sacrilegious. If terrorists killed Maori would those women dress up as aboriginals to display their "caring"? If women Catholics or Nuns were killed should we expect kiwi's to dress in habits "in solidarity"? Or if Jews murdered, are we to suppose that kiwis will wear black hats, dark suit coats, and sidelocks (as well as a spiffy paste on beard?).

- Its primitive symbol of primitive values. The hajib is a symbol of the oppression of women. Why would any government official, or sensible member of the public, embrace the symbol of cultural and religious practices of misogyny? Why not tell women to cease driving for a month, or have an old fashioned flogging of an adulteress in the town square? Anyone up for canning women for exposing their legs? And I'm sure we are aware of the woman in Iran that was blinded and disfigured for defying the hijab code.

And in case these emotive female NZ clowns don't get it, former Muslims will tell you that the Hajib and Burka is an undisputed symbol of women as property, a non-person, not some innocent national costume to feed liberal fantasies of harmless "can't we all get along" ideology.

- So just how is social cohesion advanced by ludicrous and insensitive costuming like another religion or culture?

- No woman of Muslim background should feel intimidated to keep wearing a symbol of oppression, ESPECIALLY by clueless pubic officials who are doing them no favors by making it "normal".

Its rare that a politician manages to be insulting, patronizing, insensitive, hypocritical, misogynist and clueless in one act; Jarcinda has managed to do it.

The PM wore a head-scarf out of respect. As I said above while all hijabs are head-scarves not all head-scarves are hijabs. Do learn the difference. Moreover the weapons being 'banned' are semi-automatics and even then they will still be available to properly licensed holders.

Ah, look another one who cannot tell the difference between empathy welcomed by the Muslim community and supposed submission to Islam. Learn the damn difference.

Yes, your hysterics about people in New Zealand supporting their fellow citizens following a terrorist attack carried out by one of your far right cronies is nonsense without substabde.....but somehow that never stops you from spewing crap.

Sounds like somebody's pissed their pal's terrorist attack didn't cause the reaction they wanted.

Desperately crying about "radical Islam" to downplay the murders of Muslims says a lot about you......but nothing people didn't already know.

These types of rifles are not legal in France, yet were the kind used by ISIS for the Bataclan Massacre of 2015. They're not legal in Norway either, which didn't stop Anders Breivik.

A headscarf is a hijab when worn for Islamic religious purposes. Kiwi women wore hijabs, because it was for solidarity with Muslims. 5,000 Brits convert to Islam per year, mostly young women. This is due to the British government and Anglican church becoming wimpy and spineless in the face of the world's most oppressive religion. It's fine to honor the victim's of the mosque massacre, but dressing your girls in hijabs is ridiculous and tacky.

And here is another one who responds with a thought so simple-minded as to suppose he did not read more than a few words before missing the point. I can't tutor you on every sentence, but I do suggest you start with the first nugget of truth:

"Leave it to a western liberal to parade their virtue and solidarity in the most patronizing way imaginable."

In other words, parading one's "empathy" by posturing with religious symbols of another person's religion is about the most patronizing expression imaginable. Welcoming by dressing in their national costumes may be empathy to a western liberal, but its something quite different to those who take their religious customs as serious.

And, by the way, no one is talking about a persons submission to Islam, we are talking about the inappropriate use of religious and oppressive symbols, no matter how well meaning by clueless western liberals.

Now read the remainder of my teachings, and then get back to me young Kiwi...

Absolutely. Trying to sanitize the wearing of a hijab as a head scarf is one of the dumbest ploys of recent; the whole point of the mimicry by the PM and the rest could identify with a cultural-religious symbol. No matter what these clowns were intending, its almost as inappropriate as wearing a swastika in solidarity to dead Germans or Nazi's.

I thought most reasonable people were in agreement that this kind of thing looks like a clueless ploy at best, and an attempt to patronize at worst, after Justin Trudeau hammed it up for the cameras, even dressing his children with costumes and forehead dots.

As bad as these were, I think telling young girls to wear the hijab is worse, given Islam's flagrant mistreatment of women and girls.

As this display of empathy was welcomed by the NZ Muslim community perhaps you are the one who needs reading lessons?

Bull****

Perhaps some do, some don't. Some might even wish the display included whipping a woman for baring flesh. Doesn't change that what isn't patronizing is still foolishly endorsing a culture of misogyny and oppression.

And that is unacceptable.

And you missed the point that the Muslim community of NZ were happy with this display of empathy. But you knew that already, your words simply mask your bigotry and hatred.

I didn't miss your point, I addressed it. You expect us to take your word that all Muslims in NZ were happy with others wearing hijabs, thus normalizing a symbol of oppression. I said some likely are, some not. I also didn't change my position on all the other points why I consider imitating oppressive symbols of women as property is a bad thing.

So who then is actually masking their bigotry and hatred of women?

Started by New Zealand's President Jacinda Ardern, women in New Zealand were encouraged to cover their heads after the Christchurch attack, in order to show support for the victims. Judging by online news sources, thousands of Kiwi women and girls have donned headscarfs, and voluntarily covered their hair.

How do you feel about this? Personally, I don't remember Muslim women dressing in Western apparel, or donning Christian religious symbols to show solidarity with non-Muslim women after 9/11, or any of the hundreds of Islamic attacks in the Western world since then. Ardern's message to the Islamic community was, 'We Stand With You'. I'm not so sure Ardern knows the significance to Muslims of seeing thousands of Kiwi women wearing headscarfs. It looks like submission to them.

1. I think that the Kiwi ladies are making a well-intentioned mistake.

2. Of course, everyone should express verbal sympathy with the victims of that attack, and the perp should be severely punished.

3. But those Kiwi ladies, in my opinion, should refrain from doing anything that might be considered as an invitation for more people to enter their peaceful and orderly nation where the vast majority still share common cultural values.

a. Haven't those kind Kiwi ladies noticed the growing disharmony in the United States & Europe?

Which parts of Polynesian culture did you have in mind?
