Australians Trust Xi Jinping More Than They Trust Trump

Australians have less confidence in President Donald Trump than Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, but remain convinced that the U.S. alliance is vital for the country’s security, according to a survey. About 30 percent of Australians have confidence Trump will “do the right thing in world affairs,” according to an annual Lowy Institute survey released Wednesday. The U.S. commander-in-chief comes seventh out the nine leaders ranked in the survey, behind U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May (68 percent) and Xi (43 percent) and ahead of Russia’s Vladimir Putin (19 percent) and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un (5 percent). “There is no question that Donald Trump’s presidency has eroded Australians’ trust and confidence in the United States as a responsible global actor,” Lowy Institute Executive Director Michael Fullilove said in the survey report. “Yet despite concerns about the current occupant of the White House, Australians’ support for the U.S. alliance has held firm.”

Yessiree. Making America Great Again. not

I know the Trump supporters will gloat and enjoy this, but the world's opinion of America heavily matters. If the people hate and distrust us, so will their politicians, and the next time we're trying to push an agenda the world will respond in chorus with "go **** yourself".

So keep celebrating as Trump destroys our closest alliances and tears down nearly 100 consecutive years of US hegemony. China is already using the vacuum to advance its own agenda, which is heavily contrary to ours.

The majority of Australians lean left and therefore the 30% vote of confidence is not surprising, I have actually bumped into some Trump supporters (believe it or not) but they are generally regarded with slack-jawed disbelief

China is Australia's biggest importer (30%) and therefore despite the recent headlines of politicians being bribed by the Communist Party, China wanting a base in Vanuatu and the militarization of the Spratly islands in the South China Sea, Australians have a fairly stable and good relationship with China

Australia has always stood by the US, it's a relationship we know and trust regardless of POTUS, we may not trust Trump but we trust the US, Trumps will come and go. Ironically our close relationship with the US is a sore point for Beijing, we frequently walk a tightrope between Washington and Beijing. Beijing would like nothing more than for the US/Australia relationship to erode.

As for Putin and Kim Jong Un featuring near the bottom, Russia is just too far away and mainstream media have not been kind since Trump have been elected, election meddling and Skripal affair have completely overshadowed any positives Russia could have gained in the media from the ISIS/Syrian war. Besides after 7 years of war most Australians just don't want to know about Syria anymore...for today's instant generation it has become a forever war.
Kim Jong Un threatened to nuke us which is self-explanatory:lol:
