Australian childrens’ book author Mem Fox has suggested she might never to return to the US after she was detained and insulted by border control agents at Los Angeles airport.

Fox, who is famous worldwide for her best-selling books including Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes and Possum Magic, was en route to a conference in Milwaukee earlier this month when she was stopped.

She told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation she was questioned by border agents for two hours in front of a room full of people – an experience that left her feeling like she had been physically assaulted. “I have never in my life been spoken to with such insolence, treated with such disdain, with so many insults and with so much gratuitous impoliteness,” Fox said. “I felt like I had been physically assaulted which is why, when I got to my hotel room, I completely collapsed and sobbed like a baby, and I’m 70 years old.”

The author attributed the aggressive questioning to border police who had been “turbocharged” by Donald Trump’s proposed travel ban. Fox said she was questioned over her visa, despite having travelled to America 116 times before without incident. She was eventually granted access to the country. After lodging a complaint over her treatment with the Australian embassy in Washington and the US embassy in Canberra, Fox received an emailed apology from US officials.

You cross enough borders enough times, and yes, eventually a mistake will be made and you'll get pulled aside. It's happened to me.

But I sure as hell didn't get treated the way she got treated. That is inexcusable and insane.

The were not competent in this instance. They ****ed up royally, hence the apology to Mem.

Border crossing always holds the potential unpleasant experience. Going into the uk or US has long been such that I require a good reason to take it on myself. I had to wait for two and a half hours after midnight with another amerucan, an Indian and a Lebanese in Fiumicino Rome, while my wife an EU citizen was waved through. We were coming from London.

You read about problems people have quite often. Ted Kennedy was detained for a short while and other known names surface from time to time. Often because they act suspiciously, say things that sound an alarm or their names are the same as one on a warning list.

And if this bothers you so..were you really really really really saaaaaad when border agents, customs agents and TSA officials during the Obama administration but infants on the no fly list and barred children from entering the US? Cuz...if you were...I must have missed your poutrage.

It's not a partisan thing for me but it clearly is for you as you are attempting to play that card here. As much as you want to pretend that you are familiar with 16,000 of my posts Vance, you don't have any clue what my previous stance has been. Allow me to correct that for you. My stance is consistent.

The example of the baby who was banned during the Obama Administration days was beyond ridiculous. Absolute idiots. Mem Fox's treatment was a disgrace. Again, absolute imbeciles.

If someone had made a thread out of it then I would have been pissed off too. I hate the TSA, always have- having to take my shoes off is the silliest thing ever when I go through security checks.
 
One of our Friends, (70 something white female) say she will not fly anymore, because she gets stopped and questioned almost every time.
She thinks that in order to appear to not be profiling, they need to select a number of people who are the opposite of middle eastern males between 18 and 40.

Like my old grandpap used to say....Why that's just horse****, son. You claim it's not partisan to you yet it is CLEaRLY partisan. This wasn't an issue AT ALL during the Obama administration but it happened ALL THE TIME. And when it was discussed (see the discussions on the no-fly list) it wasn't because Obama or the TSA...it was because rat politicians were trying to expand bans on gun ownership using the no-fly list.
