Coronavirus did not originate in Wuhan seafood market, Chinese scientists say

Coronavirus did not originate in Wuhan seafood market, Chinese scientists say | South China Morning Post

Analysis of genomic data from 93 samples of the novel coronavirus suggests it was imported from elsewhere

The busy market then boosted its circulation and spread it to the whole city, research shows

The novel coronavirus that has claimed the lives of more than 2,400 people did not originate at a seafood market in the central China city of Wuhan as was first thought, according to a new study by a team of Chinese scientists.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was instead imported from elsewhere, said researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Institute for Brain Research.

If this is a new, emerging virus, I can't see how they can come to this conclusion so quickly. Propaganda to match the Russians blaming it on the CIA? Why Wuhan & not Beijing? Coming from a fish market, it smells fishy to me.

Biological warfare is the next big step in global conflict & this could just be a test.

Conspiracy theories is a few floors down, driven home by the idea that we should trust anything China says.

Let's get serious here. The Chinese Academy of Science is regulated by the Ministry of Science & Technology, which is a direct arm of the Chinese Communist Party. Of course this report is bull****.

Yup. The Chinese are using misinformation to cover up their incompetence.

It don't trust any of those sumbitches. I don't trust the way my government has handled it so far. At what point - if the virus looks more like a pandemic - does the US advise taking precautions that could be harmful to the US economy? Will they wait too long, suggest too little, in favor of corporate profits over citizen safety? The current administration is not known to put the needs of citizens above corporate profit. And how decimated are the learned professional staff at the NHS, CDC and other important government agencies? Do we have all the best and brightest working on projections, preventions and planning? Experience cautions us that the current administration may drop the ball along the way. Proper planning and response for domestic situations is decidedly not a strong point of the current administration.

I'm calling the virus "Corona Unknowna".

No nation wants to be 'patient zero' of a deadly epidemic, though bear in mind this virus is only deadly to the very young or old- pretty crappy weapon if you ask me...

Remember the Spanish Influenza of 1919??? (It started in stateside basic training camps among GI's and went to Europe with them, but 'we' didn't want the blame for so many deaths now did we???)

If you believe in Darwinism then you have to believe evolution does exist, even for viruses. Every year we face a new strain of flu- are they being created by some research lab? Big Pharma creating new strains every year to keep the bills paid, the corporate lights on????

Or is evolution in viruses a bit faster than apes coming down from the trees?

Why does flu change every year and the mumps stay relatively stable?

Just an FYI, the market wasn't just fish, but meat and wild animals so it is a bit of deflection to just say 'fish' market.

But China is in some ways still back in the 19th century when it comes to comprehensive veterinary care. There is a swine flu ravaging Chinese swine. African swine flu- 100% fatal to pigs and there is no vaccine.

While a severe form of flu is a concern for us, this flu that could wipe out so important a food source for a growing China is by far the biggest threat.

But I guess some can see the 'logic' in a secret gubmint lab cranking out this flu- after all most of these believers don't think any gubmint organization can get anything right so producing a 'deadly' virus that doesn't take out the biggest threat- able bodied, younger adults- is pretty pucked up and about their speed...

Yeah a gubmint lab created 'killer' virus that can only take out the weakest among us...

Yep. We can decry the CCP/Chinese Government's misinformation, but we've got to realize the Trump administration isn't all that different. And I don't say that lightly, nor is it flippant hyperbole on my part.

Trump has neither the brains or the motivation to piss off his buddy Xi. He has no understanding of this plague & it's long term effects & has fired all those who do. And he has cut back on or scientific staffs who might be able to do something about it.

    This is an interesting take:
The coronavirus may have leaked from a lab

In the long term we need to know, but this information will not help us do what we need to do now, which is save lives. I do know that we have got to stop shutting down all heretical views as conspiracy theory, that idea might have had validity once but now all it is is the labeling "garbage" of all ideas power does not want talked about.

Odd. I keep getting a blank page with the South China Morning Post header in the upper left of the page. Nothing else.

So I am operating on what you have quoted. The statement that the Wuhan fish market originally associated with the first occurrences of the Covid-19 virus may not be sinister at all. It just means that infected persons or material spread the disease from that spefic location but that another location within Hubei Province or China may be the point of origin. As the authorities track back the infection's trajectory to its source we may learn more. The international medical community will be watching China very closely and will be scrutinising all the data carefully, making fraud difficult and therefore unlikely. This may be the result of ignorance of the first stages of this viral infection which are only being discovered now, and not the product of some sinister hidden agenda.

The idea that this may be some sort of biological warfare related event, in the absence of any real evidence of that possibility, is just irresponsible speculation which could adversely affect the containment of this virus by creating distrust and conflict between the states trying to shut this outbreak down. That's not cool.

    Cheers.
