I'm reading the 'Collected Short Stories of Philip K. Dick,' renowned sci-fi author who brought us movies like Blade Runner & Total Recall. If he were alive today & read this headline it certainly could have inspired some interesting sci-fi stories. Mutant Chinese ninja turtles run amok?

The Chinese gene work was probably several bridges too far

Yes, absolutely, he would have shuddered &/or loved it. But he wrote the underlying short stories, usually. These were expanded into treatments that became movies. I don't know that Dick ever got to see any of these near-literary children of his.

& his reputation in Sci-Fi has grown as some of his more far-fetched ideas turn out not to have been so distant, after all. We may not see his like again.
