Seems like a pretty bad look for the NBA.

I was trying to find exactly what he said that was so bad. A few of the articles I've seen don't say what he actually tweeted.

Was it really only: “fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong.”

Everyone in China and the NBA freaking out about that kinda makes the point.

The NBA's reaction is 100% expected and 100% wrong and very disappointing.

I wouldn't have a problem if they had a "we should stay out of politics" policy, but they don't. They have a history of allowing players to broadcast "social justice" messages, and even of stripping the all-star game from Charlotte over transgender bathroom rights.

So, unless transgender bathroom rights are a big money maker for the NBA, it's not always about the money.

The corrupt Boyz in Beijing are going to require truckloads of cash to their bank accounts to forget about this.

NBA has a product the Boyz crave and will do anything to deliver to the Chinese yet NBA are acting like they have zero leverage.

And zero morality and values. Yao Ming who should be able to contribute to bridging this divide only stands in the bucket, the reason being nobody ever accused him of having a brain or any kind of savvy. Yao Ming is a classic Chinese klutz.

If you displease Communist China, they will hit your cancel button.

Chinese Party bosses and the people of the People's Republic know the salad days of the China-USA relationship are done, over and past. Now it's strictly bread and water for 'em until the CCP Dictator-Tyrants in Beijing put into law their verbal trade agreements.

China's thousand years old arrogance is on full display as the Boys of the Party lecture, scold and try to menace those who will not kowtow to 'em according to Chinese traditions and customs. In Beijing it's the Chinese who are always right and moral and the world that's always wrong and in for the bad time.

NBA’s commissioner ‘will receive retribution sooner or later’ for defaming China, state media reports

Punishment will be meted out “sooner or later” to the NBA’s commissioner for defaming China, state television said, as Beijing and the basketball league continue to grapple publicly.

NBA commissioner, Adam Silver said earlier the institution would not apologise for the tweet and supported freedom of expression in American basketball.

On Thursday, Silver said the Chinese government had demanded Morey be sacked, which Beijing denied. Chinese state television, CCTV, in turn accused Silver of “inventing lies to dirty China”. “Once a person’s morality goes wrong, he will receive retribution sooner or later,” it wrote in a commentary on its website Friday night.

Silver “doesn’t hold back from moulding himself an image as a defender of the freedom of expression”, it added.

The backlash in China against Morey’s comments has cast a cloud over the NBA’s lucrative broadcasting, merchandising and sponsorship interests in the country, where it has legions of fans. By defending Morey, the boss of the NBA had “crossed the bottom line by showing a lack of respect to Chinese”, CCTV wrote.

“But he had to make false declarations as well to please certain elected American officials.”

Here's what's really got their attention in Beijing:

These data are always "man-made" anyhow as actual growth is between 2% and 4% while only continuing to decline. Nomura, Lombard, Capital Economics and several investment houses argue these data rather than accept the man made data of the CCP Boys in Beijing. The so called trade war which is in fact an economic war China is losing has knocked back their economy to before Xi Jinping took full power in 2013. Capital continues to flee China.

They'll lie and report rosy numbers to please the masses and try to project their economic influence upon other smaller countries. I seriously hope China is in for a day of economic reckoning

Global markets are waiting on the "major economic adjustment" the CCP Boyz in Beijing have been shadow dancing around for several years now.

Beijing hasn't yet had the major economic correction that will occur and that is inevitable due to the CCP economy and financial system being almost completely artificial and unsustainable. Global markets have the correction priced in -- they can't afford to be caught flat footed by it when it hits.

Beijing is trying only now to deal with the shadow banking system that privately owned companies had to create and must share because CCP state banks are prohibited making loans to private entrepreneurs and private business owners. Estimates in the West are that 40% of GDP is connected to shadow banking which regulators can't account for. That's a lot of bucks floating around out there that regulators don't know anything about and that keep getting siphoned off without controls and that no one in China has oversight or management of to include the central bank.

Manufacturers are fleeing China for Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, Mexico because of the trade war which is in reality a highly successful attack by the White House to degrade the economy of the malevolent CCP. Beijing won't get those back and there's nothing new going in to replace 'em. Everyone has seen Xi Jinpingpong doesn't have the smarts or the clout to reform the economy and financial systems, their being separately and together the Rube Goldberg contraptions that they are. Nobody can fix 'em which is how CCP designed it for themselves only to use and exploit.

Household spending is still under 40% of GDP because too many Chinese won't spend. Too many Chinese won't spend enough, much or at all. The Chinese know from thousands of years of it they have to save for the rainy day thunderbolt that always hits. Chinese people know it happens sooner or later with every dynasty and CCP is just another corrupt Chinese dynasty except for their expensive business suits and cellphones. Indeed, Chinese dynasties have more bankruptcies than Donald Trump has. Every Chinese dynasty has failed and the CCP-PRC Dynasty is one of the spectacular whoppers among 'em all and over a long haul. It's going to be a really hard fall this time.
