North Korea has increased nuclear production at secret sites, say U.S. officials

WASHINGTON — U.S. intelligence agencies believe that North Korea has increased its production of fuel for nuclear weapons at multiple secret sites in recent months — and that Kim Jong Un may try to hide those facilities as he seeks more concessions in nuclear talks with the Trump administration, U.S. officials told NBC News.

But, but... Trump negotiated the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula! How could this be?

So would the proper course of action have been not to try and negotiate denuclearization at all? And,,, so far all that is said "agencies believe", I am sure this will be watched and if it turns out provable no one is going to throw up their hands and well, I tried, guess that's it.

De nuclearization of North Korea has been tried before. I'm sure it will be tried again, probably several times.

For decades, the international community has tried to stop North Korea's nuclear weapon and missile development. It has failed.

The pariah state has promised disarmament more than once, only to repeatedly backtrack on its commitments. It has duped multiple U.S. presidential administrations, each of which has passed the North Korea problem onto the next. Now, many fear that pattern is being repeated as Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump prepare to meet before May.

It's kind of like:

We're going to have to respect them as a nuclear state, end of story.

It is possible to get the North Koreans to agree to nonaggression treaties, where test flights and provocative military measures are ceased, and an official end to the Korean war is achieved. In return their world economy gets more support if they keep the peace.

But them giving up their weapons? Forget it. They'll never leave themselves open to a US-South invasion with nothing to defend themselves with like Iraq or Libya.

That's true. We can't immediately assume that they're thinking of sending nuclear missiles to various countries just because they're re-stocking their fuel. There's threat everywhere, after all. They might feel the need to be ready for IS and whatnot.

Yes, because laughing at Trump's outrageous claims of denuclearizing North Korea ultimately means that you must not support doing so.
