Is Trump ready for talks with North Korea? - BBC News

Never before has a US president prepared for a summit of this importance - with so few people and in such a short time. What could possibly go wrong?

President Donald Trump is planning to meet Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, by the end of May. The meeting - if it takes place - would be unprecedented: no US president serving in office has ever negotiated directly with a North Korean leader.

It's a dramatic shift in policy - technically the two countries are still at war. The Korean War ended in 1953 not with a peace treaty, but an armistice.
==================================================================
I'm not optimistic. Trump has an alarming tendency not to listen to advisers & to say the first thing that pops into his head, usually the last thing the last person in his office said before leaving. And Kim will be playing hardball. He'll ask for the sun, moon & stars before agreeing to scrap his nukes & missiles. He'll likely want U.S. troops out of SK. How will Trump respond to that?

No - Trump will just tell Kim Un that Trump is better than Kim Un in every way imaginable & that it's all about Trump ............

Trump will say; Kim, do you have a ruler? Let's measure our dongs & see whose is bigger ............

There is no way to know, we will likely know soon however.

I have heard a lot of claims of the decline of the BBC, one hopes that they used to be better than this.

The South Korean leader was making overtures to Kim and was scheduling talks independently. This forced Trump to get in the middle of the negotiations. It may be the only way he can prevent peaceful relations between the Koreas. The "Fear Factor" is a wonderful catalyst for the MIC profits and ending wars and eliminating instability is not a good Corporate profit motive. I honestly believe that Trump's presence is intended to be a red whell to make sure the Koreas don't discuss peace and re-unification. As I said, the South Korean leader was going to be talking to Kim without the USA presence and can you just imagine that. Koreans talking/negotiating without the USA. I can imagine it, like a pantomine act without voice or string puppets without strings. Hot dam, y'all, ah swar, it's just a puppet show after all.

Here’s what is going on. Kim gets summoned to China. China tells Kim “you will not do a unilateral deal with the USA”. China reminded Kim that actually is a Chinese puppet.

We don’t know what China will do because they don’t know what they will do.

Kim may tell Trump he wants US troops to leave (that’s what China wants)
Then NoKo will invade SoKo with China’s blessing and China and NoKo are happy.
Trump says “no f’ing way. They are our ally” We will protect SoKo.
Trump will not play the game Bush, sr. Clinton, Bush, jr. and Obama played. The can has reached a cul de sac. There is no more room to kick it.
China does not want a democracy in Korea, north or south.
We do not want NoKo nuclear weapons pointed at us.

The plan b is to inform China that they can have the NoKo rubble and the south will not seek to unify the peninsula under democracy. We don’t need their permission.

Decline of the BBC?
Yeahright. They can only aspire to the American standard of journalism.
Did you read the report?

BBC (web) is on my daily rotation, they are good enough for that.

No I did not read it, the stupid headline was enough for me to take a pass.

You're wrong about one thing- China knows exactly what they'll do. They've known for a long time exactly what they'll do.

Well, best you don't read it then.

If I were Trump and read this junk I think I might act like a madman as well. First the same folks said his tweets are going to land us in a nuclear war. Now that has proven to be 180 degrees wrong, the "concern" is he is not ready for a meeting.

What does anyone expect out of a first meeting on something so historic. I expect little to nothing. Except to set up high level talks that may take years. Remember it took Obama/Kerry years to work out the Iran deal and we bent over and took it to get that deal before Obama left office.

It is fine to hate the president as progressives do. That being said a little common sense is not a bad idea to bring to a debate.

Headlines work both ways you know, they both draw people in and turn people away when they suck.

They always suck, depending on who's drawn in and who's turned away.
But I agree- writing headlines seems to have become a lost art.

It is worse than that, they are now often a purposeful misrepresentation of the piece or stupid or a straight up lie.

Increasingly now they are gibberish.

I only have so much bandwidth.

And what do you think that is?

Keep pushing in small issues that less far-thinking people will leave behind, in the next election cycle or the one after.
China plays a long game, while American presidents are always running for re-election.
