Question: What will happen to North Korea?

Will Kim Jong-un remain in power? If he is internally dethroned, would China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, or the United States try to take over?

I believe Kim Jong-un wants to remain in power so I don't think he would engage in war with South Korea or the United States. That being said, I don't see North Korea normalizing relations or implementing democracy. Any signs of democracy would lead to the end of the Kim dynasty reign.

Well, I would think that if he lost power then one of his uncles or other siblings would take control and then it would be a completely repeat all over again. Up to a few years ago, we honestly didn't believe that Un was actually a person. Much less that Il actually had a daughter as well.

As for who would take power in the response of a dethroning.. most likely a representative from South Korea. Possibly imposed with the help of an ally and only for the duration that they could find someone who was willing to take the position. Seeing as South Korea has been more then willing to help in the long run and more then willing to help the people of North Korea in general.

NKs current relations have been strained as of late, especially with how ill equipped Un has been when dealing with them. Say what you want about his father, but the man didn't fail to at least appear charismatic when dealing with other leaders of the world.

Though I would not put it passed Russia or China to attempt in instating someone.
The US would mostly likely defer to South Korean power in that occasion.

Got to feel sorry for whoever inherits that mess though.

They will continue to be a pain for everyone that has to deal with them, and that is about it for the foreseeable future.

The question of what will happen to NK will only be decided by China. They have total control over Rocket Man. He jumps when they say frog.

I don't see China pushing Rocket Man out of his position unless he gets big ideas about doing what HE wants to do instead of doing what THEY want him to do. If he does, he won't live any longer than they allow.

So no. Russia, SK, Japan, the US...oh, they make motions like they "want to deal with NK" but the reality is they are dealing with China. Trump knows this and all of his important actions regarding NK are directed at China.

The Kim dynasty will remain in power for the foreseeable future and Kim Jong Un's Sister, Kim Yo Jong, has emerged as the key figure who determines the future course of North Korea. Kim Yo Jong serves as the first vice-director of the North's Workers' Party Central Committee but she is in charge of the country's foreign affairs now, exerting her good influence on her despot brother, and she's flying to the US as a special envoy. Just like what Ivanka does to President Trump, Kim Yo Jong neutralizes Kim Jong Un's aggressive foreign policy.

I wonder if Kim’s sister’s cameo was engineered by China, and maybe something is in the works that pushes her to the forefront as a way for China to save face with NoKo’s intractable position that is a loser for China.

China was the middleman, but Trump has cut them out and is talking directly to NoKo.

If China is considered the middleman, it's only for show. The reality is, China is THE man...and Trump hasn't "cut them out". They are his focus.

In regard to Kim's sister, you could be right. If you are, I'm thinking Kim is going to have an accident...or a health issue...or something.

I do not know but I do know that those who insist that North Korea could not possibly be successful that there should be no argument on the subject it is so obvious are both arrogant and ignorant.

EDIT: Also keep in mind that what North Korea wants more than anything else is respect....if Trump continues to offer that then a mountain may well be moved.
