Assuming this article true, this is really good news:

North Korea agrees to freeze missile tests, hold summit, Seoul says

North Korea has agreed to refrain from conducting nuclear and missile tests while engaging in dialogue with South Korea, Seoul's national security chief Chung Eui-yong said Tuesday after returning from a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Chung added that Pyongyang also expressed willingness to talk to the United States "in an open-ended dialogue to discuss the issue of denuclearization and to normalize relations with North Korea."

Chung said that as part of the dialogue, the two Koreas would hold a summit next month, the first of its kind in more than a decade. The last inter-Korean summit was in 2007, when South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun met Kim's father, late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.

The meeting will be held at the Panmunjom Peace House on the South Korean side of the demilitarized zone that divides the two countries, Chung said.

Pyongyang and Seoul will also open a communication hotline that will enable Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in to speak directly. Moon sent Chung and four other top government officials to Pyongyang Monday, when they met with Kim and some of his top aides. It's believed to be the first time the young North Korean leader has ever met with any officials from South Korea since taking power in 2011.

Developing story - more to come

You trust this?

NK saying they are no longer going to run nuke tests = NK nuke testing is complete.

Yes, it is good news, but do not get to giddy over it, it is only a good start.

FYI: Panmunjom Peace House is not on the South Korean side of the DMZ, it straddles it with the border going through the center of the building and dividing the complex. I know this for a Fact as I have been there, more than once, and used to over look the place from our Guard Posts.

Let's hope it turns out to be a turning point towards normalization of relations, denuclearization, and the People of the North getting more freedoms and healthy conditions. Talks are good, but actions speak far more loudly.

You trust this?

I certainly don't trust them, but the recent "making nice" with the Olympics and with Trump might just be the ego boost NK needs to take a tiny step into the current century. Eventually (although it might not be today), they'll realize that they can get more by joining the world rather than opposing it.

But, we need to take what they say with a healthy dose of skepticism. They're not going to turn over a new leaf overnight, but it will one day happen. Just as it happened with Japan after WWII.

None of this makes any sense, it’s unprecedented.

North Korea, playing this nice for this long, now, I will say my optimistic bone wiggled a bit after reading this story BUT, at least for now I am going to ignore it until I see something concrete and state what I know to be the truth.

North Korea has absolutely no intention whatsoever of dismantling its Nuclear program and any talk of them doing so is simply, like their Olympic charm offensive an attempt to buy more time and/or continue to generate positive headlines in order to, as they approach the final stage of nuclear development, miniaturization and placing that warhead on a missile.

It’s also an attempt drive a wedge between Seoul and Washington in terms of its approach to North Korea.

I want to be wrong, let me say that and I would hate to miss an opportunity to have peace with DPRK because I’m perhaps being overzealous but and I’ll go with a modified Reagan on this one, don’t trust, verify, trust, keep verifying.

So if they reunify, will the South then become a nuclear power?

Don't think anyone has mentioned reunification. N.Korea has said they're prepared to scrap their nukes if the safety of their regime can be guaranteed.

So.....what do they want this time?

Food, Fuel, or cash?

Hmm, interesting. It would be nice if true, so we can all hope it is. But I wouldn't trust NK for a second. We'll see how it all turns out.

South Korea will not seek any kind of sudden reunification and neither will North Korea.

The South have studied history and this is pure economics for them, German reunification was an extremely costly affair for West Germany and the gap between North and South Korea dwarfs, massively the gap between east and west Germany, the South Korean economy can ill afford reunification at this time.

Can somebody please stop Trump from Tweeting about how he made this happen? That'd nip it in the bud.

I can see your point. Kind of like letting millions of uneducated, skill-less third-worlders into this country. Brings society down.

North Korea's nuclear weapons are like children's toys compared to state-of-art Russian nukes. Putin showcased the development of two new nuclear delivery systems that he said could evade detection in his address to the nation. Putin also said that, if its allies were attacked, Russia was ready to use nuclear weapons, which would include North Korea. If North Korea can count on the Russian nuclear umbrella, it doesn't need its own nukes. I think North Korea missed this big picture when it was keen own developing its own nuclear bombs. All of a sudden, North Korea is more realistic about how to defend the nation.
