North Korea is hostile towards Americans and will arrest them to be used a political pawns. And yet some Americans still go there such as that 22 year old student. Why take the risk?

Some people just want to have a story to tell. The vast majority of Americans who go to NK don't get arrested. So the odds are on their side but it still isn't a risk I would take. That said, I enjoy skydiving and there are people who don't understand why I would take that risk.

i don't know, I think that going to NK is a bit too risky. While a good number of folk can go and come back, the rules are just too stringent and authoritarian. Something that a kid could get away with here and perhaps not even think twice about can get them 15 years of hard labor in NK.

Lots of better places to visit than NK anyway.

If people really want to see an authoritarian dictatorship stuck in the 1950s they could just go to Belarus.

At least they are not bombing anyone.
