So this fat, little man makes threats to nuke the USA.

Question: where is North Korea getting all this knowledge and material? NK is a poor country, its peasants starving. There are two North Koreas: those who live in the capital city are fairly prosperous, those in the countryside not so.

Question: Why has not this guy been told that he and his country will be turned into a nuclear wasteland? He does not seem to understand the consequences. The USA has never mentioned consequences. Is that not odd?

The problem about talking descriptive consequences has been that they must be so horrendous, if one wants to prevent any possible attack on Seoul or other populaton centers.

Personally, at this point, if Trump decided to nuke Pyongyang, I'd probably be OK with it. **** that little **** Kim.

Kim keeps saying that North Korea has to have "nukes" because the USA invades Nations without "nukes," like Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan(obl), Cuba, Vietnam, Panama, Granada, Haiti, Somalia, Sudan, etc. Now the question is, "is Kim right or wrong?" We haven't invaded or attacked any Nation that has "nukes." Kim might be right, because we have invaded a large number of Nations, and we have troops in 140-150 Nations. I think we should just send them lots of grain, chicken, beef and pasta.

The US and China could easily bring NK into the modern world. They choose not to for political reasons. Both countries seem to like a buffer between East and West called the Kingdom of Kim. But, now that he's playing with ICBM's, it's time to blow his fat, midget ass to smithereens.

I'm just being hyperbolic, of course. But, I sure feel that way right now.

I would like to agree with you. But NK has a million men army on the DMZ, the S Korean capital would fall within hours, if there is anything left to march to after Kim lik dic nukes it. Trump knows China is the key, who have threatend to stop oil imports to NK if they proceed with a future test.

The press are reporting that there was no test launch today, perhaps the threat of no more oil from China has made Kim Lil Dik think twice, but there is always tomorrow.

How could you nuke North Korea? Pyonyang is about a hundred miles from Seoul. Is a few hundred thousand South Koreans acceptable collateral damage?

I doubt North Korea would try another land invasion of the South like the one in 1950. Reconnaissance has improved so far that no surprise would be possible. Also, as the two Iraq wars showed, once U.S. forces achieve air supremacy over a nation, almost every military asset it has is just a target for guided bombs. It might take less than a week to achieve air supremacy in a war with North Korea.

Without air defenses, barracks, tanks, trucks, artillery, ammunition dumps, bridges, power stations, communications centers, headquarters, warships, port facilities, bases and production facilities for ballistic missiles, nuclear test facilities, fuel refineries and stores, and government buildings anywhere in North Korea would be steadily disabled or destroyed by many tens of thousands of guided bombs and missiles.

It is not clear how using nuclear weapons to attack Pyongyang would cause the deaths of people in Seoul. Presumably the weapons would be detonated thousands of feet above the city to maximize the effects of heat and blast. If so, not much soil or other material on the ground would be pulverized and thrown up into the air to settle out miles away as radioactive "fallout." When nuclear weapons are exploded high enough so that they do not disturb the ground underneath at all, there is no fallout to affect places downwind, and directly beneath the point of explosion, the level of radioactivity is not dangerous to people even an hour later.

Kim may believe his hype, but he isnt stupid. He knows he can talk **** all he wants with a reasonable expectation that he will get away with it, so long as he doesnt actually act on anything. North Korea's history ahs been make threats, rattle their wooden sword in a threatening manner, and then have world leaders buy you off and keep you silent for a while. The problems tend to escalate when the world stops paying attention and stops bribing him to shut up and color.

I highly doubt Kim will actually launch a strike, unless he feels that is the only way he can get any attention.

The one thing he CAN reliably count on is finding allies, even in the US in his hate campaign against Trump. He knows that anything Trump does will be used by the vile leftists in this country against him. If he doesnt act he will be called weak. If he acts he will be called a warmonger. It is IMO our greatest vulnerability as a country.

And throughout that week, N Korea would be bombarding S Korea relentlessly with artillary, bombs, and perhaps a Nuke or two. That's OK 'cause not too many USA troops would bite the dust, just those tiresome gooks, eh?

I think it's revealing that North Korea's military display today did not include a nuclear test.

Partisan drivel.

A few months ago you could have said the exact same thing about many on the right in regards to Obama.

And I did. I've always been consistent in support of the commander in chief, regardless of who it was. I obviously didn't like many/most of Obamas liberal domestic policies. The only time I was critical of his foreign political view was when he made the country look weak.

The Nimitz group will soon be available for use near Korea. The ships attached to the carrier include three destroyers and two cruisers. The status of the Reagan, which is based in Japan, is now "selected restricted availability." Since January, it has been undergoing maintenance on its flight deck, hangar bays, and living quarters. There are probably three destroyers and one cruiser attached to the Reagan, and in an emergency the maintenance work could be halted and the entire group sent from Japan toward Korea.

Each carrier normally has four fighter/attack squadrons on board, each with eighteen aircraft. The planes of at least one of these squadrons are usually meant to serve as fighters to defend the carrier. That would mean as many as forty or fifty planes might be armed with bombs or other offensive weapons and carry out attacks. Each cruiser and destroyer has more than 90 missile tubes, and although many of these would probably be reserved for anti-aircraft missiles, it seems reasonable that the thirty Tomahawks each of the destroyers launched at Syria recently was not an unusual number for them to be carrying.

Assuming the three carrier groups included a total of four cruisers and nine destroyers, as well as three attack subs, the total number of Tomahawks carried would probably be more than 400. If one of the four ballistic missile submarines which have been converted to carry cruise missiles were to join this force, it could add as many as 150 Tomahawks. And they could reach targets anywhere in North Korea. Five hundred or so cruise missiles and 100-150 carrier-bases attack aircraft would be force powerful enough to destroy much of North Korea's most important military assets in one fell swoop, and they would probably be joined by many more fighters and heavy bombers flying from U.S. bases in South Korea, Japan, and Guam, as well as by B-2's based in the U.S.

I admit I am speculating, but a good way to reduce the danger North Korea's forces pose to South Korea and to U.S. forces there as much as possible would be to neutralize them before they could do much damage. That suggests that a sudden, massive "decapitation" strike meant to destroy North Korea's ability to defend its airspace or to control its remaining forces may be one of the options U.S. military planners favor.

Perhaps Kim Jong In is using the threat of foreign attacks as a means to control the residents of North Korea. If Kim can convince his populace that there is a threat from the outside world, then his constituents will support the North Korean Army expenses, and stiff discipline at home.

So as long as Supreme Leader Kim can make it seem like attacks are imminent, from Foreigners, then Kim can control his Army and civilian population.

Kim's goal may be to instill a fear of attack from Foreigners. The Fear of attack can be created, for North Korean citizens, without the need for an actual attack or even confrontation. The utilization of Xenophobia, fear of outsiders, may be effective to rule North Koreans.

Seems like an awfully good rationale for the quick release of Trump from the presidency.

Wow. You would be happy if Trump nuked a country?

my two cents which are based on pure speculation and personal observation.

North Korea sucks. The people are poor and its not going to get better anytime soon by normal methods. So Kims idea is to be a giant pain in the ass to the world and hope to negotiate with them to buy his cooperation. He does this by appearing to be crazy and embrace policies and actions which could spell WW3 and the end of civilization as we know it.

Western nations give lots and lots of welfare to people who're expected to then be good little boys and girls and not piss in the punchbowl and let the civilized adults enjoy the ball. Thats the basic agreement.

That is what North Korea is about. This is a way for their leadership to extort hundreds of billions of dollars that they could never generate in any other peaceful and normal way and thereby improve their miserable little craphole of a country.

It's like talking to a bank robber who took hostages and the police cannot rule out shooting him dead, if the bank robber does not comply with police officers' orders. The consensus developing in the Trump administration is that a limited strike against North Korea's ballistic missile launch sites would not lead to a full-scale war and all options should be on the table to contain North Korea. The Kim regime is treading very carefully to avoid provoking the Americans now. President Trump is winning a war of nerves and talking diplomatically to North Korea would not work.

Yes, I do believe that this is the seat of Kim Jong Ill's power structure as well as his fathers, and grand fathers.

I think you are fooling yourself. My understanding at present is that there is no, or at least extremely limited, external information allowed to bleed into that nation.

The Kim Dynasty has been in power since the beginning. That's a pretty strong sign of approval in that country. Voters are able to vote for whomever they want.
