For those still not willing to admit the bias presented on the show Law & Order and interview, and commentary on that interview by a former L&O cast member.

Well, I think I’ve been fairly calm and forgiving of Law and Order for about fifteen years. Living outside of the U.S. has certainly helped in more ways than one. Out of sight, out of mind. Law and Order has, for years, been just a press of the remote away from non-existence.

However, recent events have Law and Order just begging for my reassessment. I hardly expected my old television series to be the clown act that leads the American viewing audience into an increasingly predictable pile of hard left propaganda.

We could analyze and scrutinize any and all television shows, movies, etc for a political lean...or we could, god forbid, just view them as the fictional entertainment that they are intended to be and either watch or don't watch.

All law and order series have liberal agendas on them from time to time.. NBC can not help itself since it is part of the liberal media.

Pretty often, it is Mrs. j-mac's favorite show.

I've never really examined the bias on the show, of course I did read an article recently concerning the matter:

In defending the actions of the man who killed the immigrants’ children, Larroquette's character says, "Limbaugh, Beck, O'Reilly, all of 'em, they are like a cancer spreading ignorance and hate...They've convinced folks that immigrants are the problem, not corporations that fail to pay a living wage or a broken health care system..."

A quote like that certainly works to favor your point, j-mac, if your point is simply that Law and Order has a liberal bias. However, I wonder under what context you make such a claim. Are you simply annoyed by the bias in that one program, or are you using that as evidence of bias on a larger scale?

And if network bias is the issue, is it simply liberal bias that bothers you, or would you be equally bothered with conservative bias?

Well, the headline of the Breitbart article caught my eye, as I have been disgusted with L&O's bias for a long time. But an interesting question you bring up concerning a conservative show....I didn't get into 24 like alot of people, so what others do you see that lean right?

BTW, nice to see you man.

Well, since we're on the topic of criminal law programming, I can point to astounding number of shows dedicated to criminal investigations (Forensic Files, Solved, Snapped, 48 Hours, Crime 360, etc). The majority of these shows nearly fetishize capital punishment as the most effective means of justice, a decidedly conservative position.

But, as for scripted television shows (such as 24 or L&O), I can't honestly say I know of any show with any bias- because I don't watch any of them. It's mostly sports and movies for me.

Of course, maybe with Comcast's acquisition of a majority stake in NBC Universal there will be a change of leadership over at NBC. There's a chance that one of the most biased networks on television will drop some it's politcal leanings from its programming.

Entertainments sources have political views? OH MY GOD! Stop the presses, this is BIG stuff! Thank god the classic TV shows never espoused political views, shows like All In The Family, or Barney Miller, or MASH....

Moriarty was my favorite Assistant DA by far. I loved the first season cast best, actually. haven't seen the more recent stuff. We are currently going through the series via NetFlix and are only on season 3 or 4. One of my all time favorite shows.

Apparently he just listens to Bill O'.

Why is it a big deal that the show has a political bend anyway? So what! don't watch if you don't like it.

I wouldn't say the show's biased. McCoy's Left and the show doesn't make any bones about it, but Cutter is Right and the show features their differences on a regular basis. The police are regularly more authoritarian-- and typically right-authoritarian-- as befits the practical functions of their jobs.

It's only the last season that I've noticed that the show's been blatantly political. I'd rather prefer that the show return to less political fare, but I think it's unfair to say that the show is biased because several of the characters have prominent biases, especially since those biases are frequently called out on the show.

Why put politics of the day in a cop show?

Why put politics of the day in a cop show?

Why put politics of the day in a sitcom about a middle aged couple? Worked great for All In The family.

did you watch carefully? They attacked the tea party movement, they made the guy who brought down the acorn movement into a criminal as well...

They praised this organization just not its leader,. its propaganda nonsense.

Oh and playing the tea party movement like gun toting thugs, in NYC? That was rich...

Law and Order has done stuff like this for years. It's still a good show.

Now this I can agree with. L&O has done stuff like this for years. And I still like the show as well. What I find interesting is not the discussion on whether or not this and other shows do this, but how some posters get so offended that it is even brought up for discussion.

There are a couple in here that I can tell would like to devolve into plain name calling for even bringing it up. Those are the ones that will fall for the propaganda when ever it is presented.

All in the family was about a bigot and was a comedy not a cop drama show.

Politics promotes relevancy, relevancy promotes viewership, viewership = ratings.

So people watch a cop show for politics not the drama?

Very true.

Law and Order has always used topics of the day as a basis for their plots. Back in season 1 or 2 they did a show on an abortion bombing. It was controversial and it really did make prolifers look like fanatics. They've done a lot of shows on gay rights, racism, and plenty of other things that could make it seems as if they are taking sides. They got rid of the first police captain and brought in a Black woman just to try to be diverse, even though Kragen was really a whole lot better. They got rid of Robbinette in order to get another woman on board. Stone was pushed out for political reasons even though he was the best.

The show is always evolving. It's well done even if it has a liberal bias. It doesn't totally soft peddle crimes by minorities for example.

I like the fact that the outcomes vary.
