I read the Foundation Series when I was a teen, given to me by my father along with many other novels written by the "Big 3" Sci Fi masters.

To see this brilliant piece of literature being brought to the big screen is very exciting for me, but also I feel some trepidation; Robert Heinlein wrote Starship Troopers, and while I considered it another amazing work, it was reduced to a dumpster fire when it was finally put on the big screen...I sincerely hope Hollywood does a better job this time around.

Who's the third? I think Starship Troopers is the only Heinlein I haven't read. The movies are almost never as good as the books, I Robot comes to mind. If they develop the characters and story as opposed to flashy tech it could be done really well.

I see it is a product of Apple so will only be available on Apple TV. Recently saw the news that the new Tom Hanks WWII move Greyhound was sold to Apple TV too.

This is a strong sign that movie theaters will soon become like shopping malls.

I would really like to see Greyhound but dont know if want to purchase Apple TV. It is a new world coming at us kids.

Arthur C Clarke.

And I could have bet the farm you would be the first to respond. ;)

It's hard to say. The big movie studios spend a lot of money buying the film rights, & then they seem to make the movie they want. Which lately is usually another iteration of Star Wars™. Is anyone interested in making a faithful translation of a book to a movie anymore?

It's like the outfits that pay big bucks to get clearance to use a Beatles song in an ad or a movie, & then use a cover band for the actual music.

Hard to say; Dune is currently on its third making....

I never got into Clarke although 2001 was a pretty good movie same with Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. They should do an R. Daneel Olivaw detective movie, that would be cool. Which book of Heinlein's had the ability of the people to change sex? I thought that was really different and interesting especially considering when it was written.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe was an abomination...

Hope this is better.

I was always fascinated by Heinlein's take of the future of Society, with the technological aspects seeming to be secondary to his stories.

What are you talking, Starship Troopers was an amazing movie, way better than the book. The novel just jerks off to militarism the entire time, advocating right wing political philosophy as a solution to the "moral decline" of society. The movie turns the book into a huge joke, a parody of itself. Way more entertaining.

Did someone say, 'Starship Trooper'?

(What a great outro!)

I do not understand why the film adaptation of the "Deathworld" trilogy by Harry Harrison has not been made yet.

As did Herbert. I'm looking forward to Deni Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune, as well as Apple's Foundation ~ it will be a good year for sci-fi buffs.

I've read the Foundation series twice. Now that I see it's going to be made into a series, I can't help but wonder why it's taken this long.

Please, psychohistory...don't screw this up.

I'm seriously beginning to doubt that Dune has any place on the screen. We shall see.

That's what I always believed, but I'm open to Villeneuve's interpretation owing to his work on Blade Runner 2049. Jodorowsky's version never got off the ground; Lynch's wasn't very faithful to the book, and the mini-series (although fairly faithful to the books) suffered from a low budget, so let's hope Deni can deliver.
