Isn't there a separate category for Foreign films?

The Academy Award for Best International Feature Film (known as Best Foreign Language Film prior to 2020) is one of the Academy Awards handed out annually by the U.S.-based Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
It is given to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States with a predominantly non-English dialogue track.[1]

In fact, Parasite was among the Foreign films nominees!

Is it political - because of complaints of lack of visible minorities among contenders?

You can of course show where in the rules a film cannot be nominated in more than one category? https://www.oscars.org/sites/oscars/files/92aa_rules.pdf. Bet you can't...

Srsly, just because your god-king went on an idiotic twitter rant does not mean you should make an equally idiotic rant...

OP is trying to say the quiet racist thing out loud.

While I thought Once Upon a Time in Hollywood should have gotten the Oscar, Parasite is still a great film that won the award based on it's merits.

Parasite is one of the finest films I have ever seen.

Trump has complained that it won. He hates to see what the help is doing behind his back. No, but seriously, he hates to read.

Lol. What kind of idiotic comment is that? Just because he twitted about it doesn't mean I can't talk about it! Cheeez.
I must've stepped on a nerve or sumthing -

Btw, isn't it the first for a foreign film to win Best Picture?

After all these years.....

I was just wondering if it isn't political - because of the complaints and the timing - after all, there's a foreign feature category!
I'm questioning the category.

Lol. Why have a foreign film category if it doesn't matter at all?

"Parasite" is the perfect movie. What's more, almost everyone enjoys it, only the people who don't like popular things don't like it.

How could it not win?

I'm not critiquing the quality of the film.
It looks like it is a very good film - I haven't seen it yet. See post #7.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.....everything is racist this days.

Refer to post #7.

Saying "I was just wondering if it isn't political" is hardly declaratory. Oblique, is what it is. Will you answer the question? Do you think the reason was political and, if so, why?

They better read it well.

I finally forced myself to watch Parasite, and I can’t imagine anyone relating to such flat, schematicized characters. So the Academy must have liked the message of have-nots vs haves.

It was a better movie when it was titled Boudu Saved from Drowning, or even the American remake thereof.

I have seen a couple of Bong Joon-ho's other movies like Mother and The Host and they are amazing too.

And what a message it was.

Like Streep was so over-rated.

The academy had lost its credibility. It's become political.
I don't even follow anymore who won what.

It's funny to read it... that is, what worries you most about this movie is whether it won an Oscar?
Ironic.

Although... most of those who write here can safely associate themselves with the Pak family... probably, you just can't understand this movie.

In general, that the film is a discussed film, that this forum shows the "achievements" of capitalism. What worries those who are not at the bottom of this life? Transgender, non-binary people, climate... the mainstream is important. You don't care about those below. What is important to you is what interests people like you. Tesla cars are important to you, but you don't care that underage children in Africa mined cobalt for batteries, you don't consider them people. It is important for you to have wind power generators, but you don't care that people in Turkmenistan without oil production will be beyond the brink of poverty and hunger. For you, those who are below your standard of living, they are not people. You don't see their problems, you don't share their difficulties... that's why you don't consider their troubles important... while you're struggling with... what is it, the climate? Well...
The authors of this film could not explain anything to the Pak families. Not entertained enough.
