The Right Stuff soundtrack which is freaking epic. And next is my Led Zepplin II SHE has a ton fo EDM records. Seriously... EDM :( Whatever, I hope she likes it all

Two words...

THIFT STORE...

Goodwill, Veterans, Salvation Army.... All kinds of goodness.

What is EDM?

I still have nearly all my vinyl and throw an album on every once in a while. I also go through the vinyl racks at the used book store from time to time but the last time I did that they had nothing interesting....maybe that's because you damned punk kids keep buying the good stuff!

Electronic Dance Music

Electronic dance music (EDM), also known as dance music, club music, or simply dance,[1] is a broad range of percussive electronic music genres made largely for nightclubs, raves and festivals. It is generally produced for playback by disc jockeys who create seamless selections of tracks, called a mix by segueing from one recording to another.[2] EDM producers also perform their music live in a concert or festival setting in what is sometimes called a live PA. In Europe, EDM is more commonly called 'dance music', or simply 'dance'.[3]

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, following the emergence of raving, pirate radios and an upsurge of interest in club culture, EDM achieved widespread mainstream popularity in Europe. In the United States at that time, acceptance of dance culture was not universal; although both electro and Chicago house music were influential both in Europe and the United States, mainstream media outlets and the record industry remained openly hostile to it. There was also a perceived association between EDM and drug culture, which led governments at state and city level to enact laws and policies intended to halt the spread of rave culture.[4]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_dance_music

I did however pick up a third record, forgot about that, Pink Floyd, dark side of the moooooon

Funny thing about Vinyl is because it is defiantly NOT portable, it was eventually doomed. But sound quality wise, it is fabulous. Maybe the best ever..

So there is a BIG plus, but a bigger con.

Anyway I have a record player and about 40 LP's, I'm not stuck in the 70's.. I have Pandora, Slacker, etc. And 95% of my listening is streaming. But I admit I do like putting on a Zeppelin LP or In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and being 'groovy...lol

OK. Now that's a real album!

Did it still have the "swag" in it? It came with a poster, a few stickers and maybe something else. I don't remember for sure but I still have the poster.

Nobody sell the record players or those little 'needles' anymore. I threw out all of mine

I got one at Best Buy. Granted, it was a while back...maybe 10 years, but I was definitely able to get one.

So I just checked and they are still available. Actually, it seems that they have MORE of a selection than when I got mine.

Wrong.. They are sold in many places now. Actually they've become more popular lately. Amazon has dozens of them, and all the accessories.

Lol haven't opened it, yet. My LZ II did though.

Vinyl is making a HUGE come back, they are everywhere, and Amazon can get you what you need.
My player is Blue Tooth enabled, it's so old, who uses BT?

Never understood the appeal of vinyls that many people obsess about... just seems strange.

My ear is not that refined. Can you go for a jog with a record player? There is a push for nostalgia every now and then.

It's definitely a nostalgia thing for me. I do appreciate the fidelity but having to flip a record every 20 min and not being able to skip songs...well, that's why CDs and MP3s were invented.

-edit-

I will note that in listening to albums I have rediscovered songs I totally forgot about just because I do have to listen to the whole side.

I have that one... I saw them in concert too.
I have about 100 vinyl albums. Worth from $25-$125 from what I gather. Most of mine are used but in good condition. No scratches.

When hubby and I were on a European tour, we were in an Amsterdam bar in our hotel and that was the first time we heard the EDM. Very different...

eta: May as well put this here too.. we have a fifties juke box too. Got it about thirty years ago. It still works. It was fun stocking it with 45's. My son's cub scout troop, (back when I was a Den mother) loved to play it, especially Michael Jackson.

No, but you can always duct tape a gramophone to your head when you go jogging, because the cylinders lock in more solidly. It can cause a slight twinge in the neck but nothing beats the fidelity.

Vinyl is a fantastic hobby. I love listening to my parents' old albums from the 1960s and 1970s. Listening to the Beatles' White Album on a record player really cannot be beat.

I know what you mean... I busted out some old tapes and forgot the order of songs and that there were ones that I did not remember.

Even better than CDS were MiniDiscs. CD fidelity, rewritable. About the size of an old floppy disc.

What are you using to value your LPs? I know that I have some rather rare stuff. For example, I know my copy of Some Girls has Monroe, Ball, etc. and that was only available for a very short time.

I'm not a serious collector, but I browsed this site to give me an idea of what each album is worth.

Also, if you have something better, let me know.

My older grandkids have been collecting vinyl albums, 45's and record players to play them on for a few years. Their interests vary from big band, crooners, early rock and roll and disco that happened long before their time. 'From their earliest years coming to the G-parents to stay for a visit one of their favorite places to visit was the 1/2 price bookstore. I would always get them a couple of books they picked out and then some of them started collecting comic books which they have a big assortment. When they turned 16 and got their driver's license their first big road trip was to the G-parents alone which is about 100 miles. Almost every weekend one of them would be up for a visit and would still want to go to the bookstore and that is when I learned of their interest in the vinyl records which the bookstore had a huge selection. The two oldest have since graduated from college and don't come up anymore and we hardly see them. They now are employed doing what they went to college to prepare them for and have boyfriends and girlfriends. No time for the G-parents. :(
