How About Sir Mick Jagger?

Just curious do they still actually write music or just live off thier past accomplishments?

Most of the Stones repertoire was composed by outside artists, interpretations of older songs, covers, and art builds on art. Keith is still composing, two of his recent songs in Billboard's top 100 this past year, covered by other artists.

The current tour is old Stones songs, interspaced with a few new originals, interpretations and covers. As usual they showcase guest artists, this year some new salsa/rock from Brazil, and some African rock artists. They're also covering some recent songs by Daniel Lanois.

They're not like Roger Plant, exploring very different genres with various collaborations, they maintain a consistent blues hard rock set of styles.

Maybe so... but I can't think of a really great new Rolling Stones song that's been released since about '89. It's seemed to me like they've been coasting ever since Steel Wheels.

Absolutely incredible.
Sir Mick clearly has the keys to The Fountain of Youth.
Whatever he's doing, it must be the right thing to do.

Well, ok, they've calmed down in their old age. But still...

I meant Robert. Roger is my midget cat, even tho she is a she. One of the grandkids named her. As I was typing, she had just climbed up to sit on my shoulder, nibbling my ear. Her way of letting me know she is hungry. The grandkid who named her, taught her to roll over and play dead when he says "Roger, and out." She won't do that for anyone else. Unless she wants something, she usually ignores everyone else, except Dog who she tortures. Think of the image, 3 lb cat intimidating 120 lb dog. Seven years later, she sees my grandson and jumps into his arms.

I kinda knew what you meant...lol...the same has happened to me in my old age...thoughts get interrupted and you end up saying or typing the things that interrupt you...funny how the mind works...or doesn't work, sometimes...:2razz:

Mick Jagger: clean living, no drugs, exercises, special diet = heart surgery

Keith Richards: smokes, drugs, alcohol, does whatever the **** he wants = indestructible

So who should be admired more? :2razz:

I do the same, lately with actors from older films. I can see the face and snippets of the name I’m trying to conjure up, but when it comes to me I think, why am I remembering this now, as the time has long passed.

Who wants to go out like Tom Petty, though? OD'ing on pain killers because he was trying to perform with a broken hip. Did he really need the fame and fortune that much?

I keep thinking back to those verses from "It's Only Rock and Roll":

"I said I know it's only rock 'n' roll but I like it
I know it's only rock 'n' roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do
Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it
I said can't you see that this old boy has been a lonely?

If I could stick a knife in my heart
Suicide right on stage
Would it be enough for your teenage lust
Would it help to ease the pain?
Ease your brain?"

I hope they're not prophetic.

Yep, I was talkin' to my Dad yesterday about an old girlfriend of my brother's...could think of her last name, but her 1st name would not come to me, to save me...until about an hour later outta the blue...Anna! lol...

Let me know how well you are rocking at the same age, without a chair. Not my favorite band, but their fans enjoy them. My lifelong friend Ralph suffers from Alzheimer's, can't remember what he had for breakfast a half hour later. He perks up everytime his wife plays a Stones album for him. Picks up a guitar and plays along with them. Otherwise, his guitars stand untouched. He made his living as a session guitarist, always in demand, and the Stones were his favorite.

Maybe, as far as new creativity, you are right and they are resting on their laurels. They've earned the right to do so. Look around, how many old bands are touring? Many with one or two of the original members, but audiences still enjoy the shows.

But one does not see Sir Keith prancing around on stage doing antics that would wear out most aerobics teachers, at 75.
Glad they're both still with us, and homage to Sir Keith's alien blood transfusion from Planet Neptune or whatever, but Sir Mick is definitely the rowdier and healthier of the two.

Glad I'm not the only one!
The other day I wanted to say that a certain person "pissed off both Ludwig von Mises AND Milton Friedman", and I kept digging for Milton and kept getting "Elliot"...

Hmmm, that's funny, I'm not watching the movie "E.T. the Extraterrestrial" so why is this glowing finger in my mind blocking the name Milton from me??

"Elliot...Elliot....Ell - - NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Finally after about five minutes of this nonsense Milton Friedman FINALLY popped up into my head, in the form of a movie clip:

Imo there will never be another band like the Stones...love 'em to pieces...always have, always will...

I was watching a video of Cher the other day on youtube, one of her latest shows in Vegas...still looks good for her age, still sings good for her age, but she walked around the stage looking stiff as a board because...well, she's 73 after all...the other young dancers were gyrating all around her...kinda pitiful lookin', she was...:(

Your post reminds me of a sports story from a while ago. The Washington Redskins were holding a ceremony honoring past great players at half-time of one of their games. I forget all the attendees, but two were Joe Theissmann (sp?) and John Riggins. All the ex-players showed up in slacks and sport coats, except Riggins. Riggins came out in full NFL regalia. Pads and helmet and the whole nine yards. The fans ate it up. After returning to the lower areas of the stadium, Theissmann asked Riggins “why?” John replied, “I just wanted to hear it one more time!”

Don't get me wrong... nothing against them. More power to'em. I just don't want to see Sir Mick end up doing a Tom Petty. All good things come to an end. I'm a big UFO fan - they're doing their 50th Anniversary tour now and after that their original front man, Phil Mogg, is retiring. I don't blame him - their keyboardist since the 70's - Paul Raymond - just died of a heart attack in April.

Why, Micky J of course...I'll bet he feels better than Keith ever did and that's the main thing...;)

*LOL* That's Diesel for you..... I used to be a big 'Skins back in the day. Loved the Hogs and the Fun Bunch and all the rest of'em. My favorite was always Dave Butz.

I can't even bring myself to think about Tom Petty yet, without getting very depressed.
I wish to God SOMEONE had reached out.

I hate telling you this, you were really thinking of Elliot Gould.

What could they have told him that he didn't already know, though? The man wasn't an idiot.... I'm sure he knew he was a fool.

The movie Syriana is a total kick in the nuts...not literally. Well worth watching.
