I am sooo jealous, you got to see Randy Rhoads. That is a concert I would have loved to see.

Any Rodger Waters show I have seen!!!

Particularly the dark side of the Moon tour.

Crosby stills and Nash at the orphium in the twin cities, acoustic show. I've seen them several times but this show was special.

Hundreds of dead shows

And a list to long to continue.

Worst

Quiet riot

The who at Alpine valley, not the show, the sound. I had seen the dead two days before and the difference was like a perfect surround sound system compared to an old AM radio, venue way, way oversold.

I still work stage and sound from time to time, and I just worked breaking Benjamins, not good!!!

I can honestly say that Im lucky enough to have never been to a bad concert.

I saw tons of GREAT shows in the old Jacksonville Coliseum. My sort of foster dad worked as a stage crew setting up shows and we were backstage on some great shows in the 70s. The acoustics weren't great from back there but you felt like you were in the show. Also watched a bunch from the seats. I also did some work in the 80s in Vegas at the Imperial Palace that put me on stage with some great bands and artists.

Best...Hmmm...
AC/DC when they first came out...77/78
REO Speedwagon...same circa...back when they were a rock band
Jethro Tull...War Child
More Modern...
The Who
Garth Brooks
Brad Paisley
Best Performance by a drunk Artist
Alan Jackson...lit the whole show

I saw ozzy with Randy, ozzy blew his voice out early In the show, and Randy picked up the slack.

Very good show...

Tool, 1994, Roseland, NYC. Best sound I've ever heard from a show, Tool is so tight live. I was pretty much up close, small venue. Hard to say the worst, I think in terms of sound I saw Tool at Fiddlers Green like 12 years later, a horrible ampitheater in Denver which is in a residential area and the sound was so low I could have a conversation with my friend over the music.

Allman Brothers - before Duane and Berry's tragic accidents. a huge fan since

T Rex - wore out their Electric Warrior album and 8-track
knew this was going to be something great
left the show early, no longer being able to stomach their "performance". nothing like this was heard:

special mention:
the august jam with over 300,000 of my closest friends, hearing The Allman Brothers Band, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Foghat, Black Oak Arkansas, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils and more (the Eagles failed to show) while enjoying some of the best orange barrel acid i'd ever experienced. ELP had a quadraphonic speaker system in the "corners" of the charlotte speedway; the music swirled to the point i could not stand up from becoming dizzy listening to it ... well, that and the LSD

weirdest act combination:
Michael Jackson opened for ZZ Top

dumbest 13 year old's decision ever: the Beatles and the Ventures were going to be the first non-martial acts acts to appear at the Budokan in tokyo, site of the '64 olympics. parents said i could only attend one show. guess which one i chose

Best...

ELO 1978
Eagles 1996
Doobies ?
Billy Joel 1979
Temptations ?
ZZ Top 1986
Boz Scaggs

Worst...

Van Halen 1984
Brooks and Dunn ?

I used to go to every rock concert I could back in the 80s. I was pretty big into partying back then so my memories are a bit foggy but some of the shows which stood out were Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Van Halen,(first tour with Hagar) and The Scorpions.

In about 1995 a friend of mine got a couple of tickets to see Tesla at First Avenue in Minneapolis. I always liked Tesla's music but had never seen them live. I went not expecting a whole lot because this was already several years after their "heyday" and I was skeptical that Jeff Keith(singer) would have much of a voice left due to his style.

They blew me away. One of the best shows I've ever seen and it was made even better by seeing them at a venue like First Avenue.

I've seen some pretty bad(IMO) bands, too. Most of them were opening acts. Some of the worst that come to minds are Dokken, Autograph, and Winger.

Really, I loved van Halen 84.

Eddie came back on stage alone for the encore and played the longest most incredible solo I have ever seen, before the rest of the band returned and played just as long as the show...

What is your worst and best concert experience?

I saw the Rolling Stones back in 81 when it was rumored they weren't going to tour anymore....LOL. It is the outdoor concert they showed in their doc "Let's Spend the Night Together"
I saw the Who a year later, someone threw a bottle at John Cougar, hit him in the head. He cursed out the audience and said he was done, but then he had to come back and finish his set...LOL
Only got to see the Grateful Dead once, sadly.
Saw Springsteen during the Born in the USA release, great show, not a huge Bruce fan.
Saw Ensemble Modern perform Frank Zappa's "Yellow Shark" once in London, great show!
Saw Dweezil Zappa last year, first show of the tour, he was amazing, got to meet him after the show, really nice guy.

Worst would have to be the time my friend had to take his niece to the state fair to see "The Knack" (My Sharona), we got seats, I left for an hour, came back for their one hit...woo..

Agreed on dokken, autograph and winger...

I thought they were dreadful, thanks to David Lee Roth...his antics on stage were dumb...

In about a years time I went to both Metallica and Slayer. Both have great albums, Slayer was just as good on stage as they were on the record (plus some more). Metallica was not. The rest of the band and Lars were out of tune.

It sucks that I lived in the Netherlands, I would assume in the US I would have seen way more of my favourite bands.

The greatest bands I would have loved to see were the Beatles, Queen with Freddy, Ozzy with Randy and Elvis Presley. All people I would have loved to see play.

Thanks, your last paragraph gave me a good laugh, sorry. I'm an old fart, was a teen in the sixties in philly, saw a ton of concerts and was at a couple three day festivals. One in atlantic city and one in the pocono mountains. One of the best was the crazy world of arthur brown, I was tripping and he was lighting his head on fire. It was memorable if nothing else because of the acid. Consistently speaking, Yes, The Eagles, Loggins and Messina and Traffic. Saw jefferson airplane and steely dan booed off the stage at different concerts they were so bad but my top choice for horrible is T-Rex.

Edit. Saw Bruce Springsteen back in 72. The single best performance I've ever seen and I'm not a huge Bruce fan.

I forgot about Jefferson airplane, terrible show when they were trying to come back in the eighties.

Another great band to see live tho is kiss.

You never sit at a kiss show...

Best -
The Who in Syracuse, NY. Don't remember the year. Would have been late 70s or early 80s
The Kinks at Proctor's Theater in Schenectady. A relatively unknown Bryan Adams opened for them and was generally ignored off the stage after three songs.
The Doobies, Allman Bros and Dead at some amphitheater in Washington State overlooking the Columbia River. Good show for some aging bands that were missing a few members but an awesome venue
Jane's Addiction in the basement of the student union at the UofA. It was pretty much like a private show.

Worst -
Lolapalooza whatever year 9 Inch Nails was headlining. It was at a dust bowl just south of Phoenix and maybe a million degrees outside. Some of the acts were pretty good but the reservation cops snatched all our beer before the show, somebody passed me a bottle of what looked like water but was really vodka with an ice cube in the middle (I didn't realize until I'd already downed half the dammed thing) and the smell of sweat from all those million degree bodies still haunts me. It was just plain nasty and, frankly, the music wasn't exactly my scene either.

Willie Nelson is ALWAYS good, saw him with the dead once, one of the top ten shows I've seen in my book.

Dillion is a crap shoot, you buy your ticket and hope he decides to perform for real.

If you catch him on a good night it's special,.but at least two out of three shows you can't tell if he is awake or not...

Best: Joe Robbie Stadium, Miami, seats 80k. The Who, "The Kids are Alright". Front row on the ground. A few feet between me and the stage. I could practically see Townshend's fingers bleeding. He did windmill despite rumors he wouldn't.

Honorable mention: Stone Temple Pilots, "Purple" in a small venue, great acoustic set.

Worst: Like I would admit that.

Yeah I can see how DLR could get on your nerves, the guy was a clown.

However Eddie sitting on that bar stool showing off his classical training was awe inspiring.

A couple friends left to beat the traffic and missed the best part of the sbow...

List of concerts: I'm not picky. I loved them all. However, I could have done without seeing Melanie and Neil Diamond. (Just not a fan, and went to these concerts on a date)
The groups that have asterisks are bands that were at local dances in or near a community where I grew up; Park Forest, IL. (a southern suburb of Chicago) Lucky me to have seen these groups at such a young age and for free.

When you saw the 84 show, did Penn and Teller open for them?

I bow to your incredible experience getting to see Janis, I have seen a lot of greats but I have .missed a lot, many of them by premature death.

Her and Alice Cooper and pig pen (original keyboard player for tbe greatful dead) were all drinking buddies.

Alice is the only one who lived and the only one I've seen. He is supposed to be touring again this summer...
