I highly doubt Clapton lives in Ohio, but gave you a like for the rest of the post! ;)

What you doubt me Chomsky???

Alright, now that I see this post it might be plausible. Pls disregard my earlier post.

Too late  Hey you are still my favorite lefty.

And when it come to Clampton by golly I think we agree.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big Mama Thorton, Warren Zevon, Roy Buchanan, Jethro Tull, Bad Religion, The Doobie Brothers and MC-5 are all deserving. King Crimson was great but they also wrote and performed the worst song ever in modern jazz-rock history so I will withhold the power and the glory and keep them in the hall of the mountain king rather than the hall of fame. Sister Rosetta Tharpe should be up-graded from an important influence award to the actual Hall of Fame itself. Emerson Lake and Palmer should be inducted too. If Etta James isn't in there, she should be. Same with Koko Taylor.

Cheers and rock on!

I believe you said Cincinnati. Not Columbus. I have no information as to Columbus. If he had a home in Cincinnati, I'd know about it

Sorry about the confusion TD, He did make multiple appearances in Cincinnati in 2018. The home in the Dublin area would be just a little over a 100 miles away. A couple hour drive.

You realize that Elenore is the reverse of Happy Together. They wrote it as a joke because the record label wanted a big hit...they put in really insipid lyrics. The song is like Happy Together in reverse. Funny stuff.
No I didn't, and odd because Elenore was indeed a hit - too. Yeah, the lyrics are really goofy & bubble-gummy, but they seem to work with it for some reason.

What do you think of She's my Girl & You Showed Me?

yep, US nationals in archery was there last year-and it and the collegiate nationals will be there this year. Right by a major league Amazon server facility-complete with armed guards patrolling the perimeter.

That's a great list, Roddy. Some great foundational players and player's players there!

Bad Company and Doobie Brothers would be a pick for myself and several others here at the office.

My pick would be Meat Loaf. BAT OUT OF HELL sold over 30 million copies and he has lasted for 40 years with many hits over the time. Heck, there even is a successful London and Broadway play based on his music.

I realize that lots of people do not like the quasi-operatic, over produced ,over blown , over the top type of rock that Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman are noted for and that is what holds his entry back. But for those of us who love that sort of thing, this is like Joe Jackson not being in Cooperstown.

Great! Howard Kaylan has a very good and funny book out about his career, worth a read!

Yeah, but he created a psychedelic pop masterpiece with "Journey to the Center of the Mind"! I'd almost consider putting him in just for that!

:2razz:

I concur that is a great song, as is "Hibernation".

Whoa! That was pretty amazing.

There's only one Steve Mariott. He fell out of the cradle, knowing he wanted to be a front man! I remember this version, but forgot about it. I don't even remember where I heard it, but I know I never had it in my collection.

Thanks for that!

My first concert was Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, with Humble Pie opening. Got to see Steve do his thing. At one point he actually slipped and in his own words..."fell on my ass!"

The RRHOF is a joke.

Harry Nilsson! FFS, the guy was a hit machine, and he had a beautiful voice!

Warren Zevon...come on, good old LA rock and roll!

Sun Ra, the most original funk ever.

The Mothers of Invention. Frank Zappa is in the HOF (nice of them to wait till after he died), but the band deserves to be there.

And, Captain Beefheart, yeah, its a bit odd, but once you get it....

Not really a Zevon fan, but those are great choices.

True story: I was a student at San Jose State back in the '70s. Was walking around the Student Union and I heard some strange music coming from the top floor. Walk in the ballroom and there playing for free is Sun Ra and his Arkestra. I stayed for a bit and listened then left. Amazing...

Well thanks for that, buddy. I took a glance it its reviews, and it does look pretty good. So, I'm going to grab it. Unfortunately, it's going to my reading pile that's maybe a year or two in size!

He also did a great episode of Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast...he was stoned out of his gourd....LOL

I selected the Doobie brothers from your list. They had
2 No. 1 Hits (Black Water & What a Fool Believes)
5 Top 10 Hits
27 Songs in top 100

That is far and away more than anyone else on the list.

In my opinion:
The Guess Who should be in. (1965 - 1974)
1 No. 1 Hit American Woman
6 Top 10 Hits
19 Songs in top 100
And they were competing for air time against bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who.

I love Jethro Tull - Aqualung is an album I still play in its entirety from time to time (and still know most of the words to every song)
They should get there because they were an early pioneer of the soon to be called Prog Rock.

But in terms of Billboard, The Guess Who were way up on them

Jethro Tull (1973 - 1977)
7 top 100 songs (1973 - 1977)
with their best coming in at 11th and 12th (Living in the Past & Bungle in the Jungle)

It's a joke in my opinion. First off, who gets to decide what rock and roll is? When I think of hall of fame, I picture it as a place difficult to reach. Many get close but again, it should be a place difficult to reach.

Elvis
Michael Jackson, both on the edge of what some people would consider rock.

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
The Who
Jimi
Janis

That's just what jumps out for me. I'm sure there's more and plenty of close calls, or honorable mention if you will.

My favorite band is Kansas, so, naturally, I'd like to see them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they're a long shot right now. My tastes are pretty low-brow, so it's probably a good thing that I don't vote for who gets in. Others I'd like to see in the Hall someday include Iron Maiden, The Alan Parsons Project, Dio, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, UFO, Styx, Saxon, Devo, etc., etc.

The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is a joke. Look at a list of artists that haven’t been inducted vs artists who have. I mean, music is subjective, but Warren Zevon hasn’t been inducted, but Janet Jackson has?

I take them about as seriously as I take the Oscars or the Grammys.

Tull played for almost forty years. That puts them way past the GW in that category. Plus they were real innovators. The GW were not.
