Most Glaring Absence in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Most glaring absence from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Greg Lake not being represented is a real tragedy; a tragedy in spades, due to his passing ...

same with Keith Emerson but Lake was amazing. As a young man-few people had a voice like his. I think Lucky Man is one of the top 15 prog rock songs ever

Ted Nugent is to music as Gallagher is to comedy.

Pure <expletive deleted>

Wow, I didn't think I'd ever agree with you. Like when piggies :fly:
Music brings people together...

based on who is NOT in-Nugent doesn't deserve to be in

based on ABBA and Cheap Trick-I might reconsider my first view

they were recently inducted. I think many of the ones I mentioned deserve in-Tull-in terms of records sold, concerts held, years in business and influence, is the most glaring absence. hard to figure stuff like Cheap Trick, and NWA or Stevie Nicks being in and Tull is not

Well they have a process they follow. There's a nominating committee that selects the group of artists. Ballots are then sent to more than 1,000 historians, members of the music industry and artists including every living Rock Hall inductee. The five performers receiving the most votes become that year's induction class.

Last I checked Eric Clapton is the only one who has been inducted 3 times into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Wonder if he gets three votes :). I've heard for years he lives here in Ohio someplace. He is often seen in Cinnci.

Yep. Did a quick Google. 2012 w/the Small Faces.

their covers of the late great Tim Hardin's If I were a Carpenter and Red Balloon are hauntingly beautiful

I think Tull was more successful commercially and lasted a lot longer

another great band I should have added-one of the top pure hard rock bands

Mountain-and on top of that-their bassist- Felix Pappalardi produced some of CREAMs best works including "Disraeli Gears"
When I typed that, I paused for a moment in consideration of Tull.

But I think the Doobies had a bit more mainstream commercial success during their hits years, at times being more pop-oriented of sorts. You'll hear Micheal McDonald era Doobies in elevators and as Musac, but never Tull. Not that that's a measure of artistic success, but I think it speaks to mainstream commercial success.

Legend has it, Lake wrote Lucky man at something like 12 or 13. Hard to believe, isn't it?

that's news to me-Peter Frampton used to live in Cincy but that marriage failed and he left. Garcia's last wife was from Cincinnati and he would come here every once in a while

the three great current rockers from Cincinnati are Adrian Belew (right across the river in Ludlow KY) and twins Aaron and Bryce Desner (the National). Only met the boys once-years ago-I have played tennis a few times with their father who belongs to the same club as I do.

yeah and when they played it live it was usually a solo acoustic effort by GL since the studio version had him laying down several different guitar and bass tracks. Sadly, he lost his range too soon. What a voice

Big fan of Adrian Belew, had some of his solo albums, he was great with Zappa and with King Crimson.

Another glaring absence, The Turtles. Great music, great story, Flo & Eddy, etc. Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan had all the hits, then were screwed out of using the Turtles name. They became Flo & Eddy, recorded with Zappa for a time, were part of Alice Cooper's band, Howard sang back up on Springsteen's Hungry Heart and toured with them. They quit drugs...did the music for the cartoon "Strawberry Shortcake. Then....a rapper sampled their music...without paying them. They sued and won a landmark legal case.

Freaking rock and roll heroes!

Whoa! That was pretty amazing.

There's only one Steve Mariott. He fell out of the cradle, knowing he wanted to be a front man! I remember this version, but forgot about it. I don't even remember where I heard it, but I know I never had it in my collection.

Thanks for that!

Also......where the hell is Laurie Partridge? Screw the rest of the family....she knew how to play that organ.

I love Marriott banging on his axe. His harmonies with MS victim Ronnie Lane were really special too

Because he is an overrated guitar player?
Yeah, but he created a psychedelic pop masterpiece with "Journey to the Center of the Mind"! I'd almost consider putting him in just for that!

:2razz:

I highly doubt Clapton lives in Ohio, but gave you a like for the rest of the post! ;)

Mike Bloomfield is in as a member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band but his buddy, Al Kooper with BS&T isn't in.

I don't know how far we should stretch "rock and roll" but if Joan Baez and Donovan are in then the 5th Dimension deserves it as well.

BB King and Albert King are in but Albert Collins isn't.

For all the rage about 60's musical artistry & creativity (which is well deserved), I swear I'm a sucker for a well crafted two-minute & thirty-second pop-radio format song. It takes real craft, to do that well. And few did it better than the Turtles.

Elenore, She's my Girl, You Showed Me, Happy Together. That great pop song-crafting.

Well the rumors have been for years he does have a home in England, France, Antigua and Columbus Ohio. I have heard Dublin a suburb of Columbus which is just a stones throw away from me. Melia McEnery, his wife was raised near Columbus and is a Bishop Watterson High School Graduate that happens to be the largest Catholic school in Ohio. The story goes they purchased a home here so Melia and the kids could be close to her parents while he was on tour and he likes it here because he can go out in the area and not be recognized and the area reminds him of where he grew up. He has got to be in his 70's now but as far as I am concerned he deserved all three inductions into the Hall of Fame.

I believe you said Cincinnati. Not Columbus. I have no information as to Columbus. If he had a home in Cincinnati, I'd know about it

That Bloomers & Butters debut album is one of my desert island picks!

Sun Ra was a little weird. By "weird" I mean "damned near made George Clinton seem normal".

I picked up one of Sun Ras more experimental CDs at a pawn shop. Listened to it once. Once more. Then I tried it stoned out of my gourd. Most CDs I can connect with one or two songs. Sun Ra.... Nothing. Gave it to a freind with more eclectic tastes. He didn't connect either.

You realize that Elenore is the reverse of Happy Together. They wrote it as a joke because the record label wanted a big hit...they put in really insipid lyrics. The song is like Happy Together in reverse. Funny stuff.

Alright, now that I see this post it might be plausible. Pls disregard my earlier post.
