Roseanne Barr says her 'Conners' character gets killed off by opioid overdose

Let us take a moment to acknowledge that VM is completely lost by rehashing what I stated 10+ posts ago.

Let us also take a moment to explore the fact that Elvira never came back to the thread, because bible's don't have answers for racism.

They're full of it.

Not lost in the least. I'm just intrigued that we have established that blacks CAN in fact be racist. There are a whole lot of folk that will insist that black people CANT be racist, which is of course a stupid ****ing position to take. All you and I are doing is establishing a refreshing and I believe a healthy new baseline.

Rosanne isn't black?

You're doubling down on your silliness by saying that when people are talking about monkey testing they are thinking of people and not software testing.

We get it. It is amazingly stupid, but we get it.

That would be you, considering the reason it's called that...or do I have to spell that out to ya, too? I kinda like the latter for describing you...you love to throw your poop at people...actually, it could be either one...or better yet, both...

While the source of the name "monkey" is uncertain, it is believed by some that the name has to do with the infinite monkey theorem,[1] which states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare.

dumb monkey
A stupid primate who swings from trees, shoves berries up his butt, and flings his poop at people.

I've never seen a person be so casual about calling another person a monkey - except in the South, but that's for obvious reasons.

Then there is you, wishing the word monkey was inherently racist in every context. Your amazingly stupid argument is indeed flawed, but we get it.

No...Roseanne isnt but ANYONE calling a white person a monkey would be racist...right?

If they think it is because that person is white and that makes it right. Sure.

If a woman at park calls a white boy hanging from monkey bars a little monkey in jest, that's not racist. This isn't that type of case. If a multinational makes the only black kid in their campaign wear a shirt describing him as a monkey, yes as multinationals have a history of discriminating against minorities when they think it is safe. I suppose other exceptions exist.

However not in Rosanne's case. She stated 'I thought the bitch was white'. Two things can be grasped out of this, she wasn't joking, and she developed the idea that it was alright to call white people monkeys/ape offpspring in any and every context.

Because white people, as a group, are oppressed by black people everywhere in the world and there's no way they can escape from it. So it's the same thing, right?

Not understanding that is stupid and racist.

I watched THE CONNERS' debut the other night, and the way that Roseanne's character died was the least objectionable thing about it. It was, in fairness, a logical result of a plotline created in the previous series, wherein Roseanne was overdosing on pain meds. The script related that plot-point to the idea that, given Roseanne's family didn't have much money, she began taking pills from other people in a sort of under-the-radar trade system. Thus Roseanne's overdose comes about because she self-medicates without any controls, which is unwise but not an attack on her character's, uh, character.

What is objectionable is all the "virtue signaling." It was already established that D.J. was now married to a black woman in the armed services, though her biracial daughter by D.J. appeared in the earlier series. Neither of them seem like real, human characters; they're signals to the audience to say, "Look, we're not bigoted like Roseanne!"

Darlene's maybe-gay son Mark isn't much better, but because he's coded as gay, he has to get clever lines.

As I predicted on some thread hereabouts, without Roseanne, no one in the cast is able to provide a center for the comic action; there's just a bunch of so-so jokes. None of the performers are strong enough to provide a center, and the ensemble doesn't work without her.

Lastly, I watched Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman appear on THE VIEW. Fishman wisely kept his mouth shut about the controversy, but Goranson, whether by her own decision or under instructions from the studio, tossed out comments on "Roseanne's racist tweet" without even an acknowledgment that the former series-star may not have intended to make a racist insult.

I suppose it will be irrelevant soon, since, contrary to claims by THE VIEW, ratings for the first ep were not good.

Prediction: The show tanks and becomes a lesson in how not to produce television.

Roseanne was headed to the OK Corral before any of this happened. It was a good sitcom for a period of time but no way was it ever in the league of All In The Family.

Are you insane it was their highest rated show.

That also means there's zero chance of her some day reappearing unless she comes back as Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Really? JR & Bobby...Dallas...:2razz:

I'm just excited that we have common ground and we no longer have to deal with the stupidity of people claiming that "black people cant be racist" anymore. If NOTHING ELSE good comes out of this topic, at LEAST we will have that.

You are blathering. PLEASE dont tell me you are one of the morons that believes that black people cant be racist.

I watched the show off and on during its initial run. Barr had her moments, but I always found her acting skills uneven. I watched the Connors, as I suspected the ensemble cast for the most part are more than capable of carryng this new reincarnation. Laurie Metcalf was always the natural comedian in front of the camera, more so than Barr. The show will be carried by Gilbert and Metcalf, and I give props to Barr for selling the intellectual properly to ABC. I understand she did so as to not would have put 200 cast and crew out of work, and that is too her credit.

Well, as was earlier pointed-out to me, there's always the Dallas "dream" technique.

And flashbacks. I never though of that.

Watched the second episode. It continues to be a well-written show. They continue to strike a good balance between comedy and realism. It has given me a reason to turn on the TV on a Tuesday.

THE CONNERS' Halloween episode was rather revealing.

The main story is about Darlene ordering her kids to change their costumes to be socially sensitive or whatever, despite Dan's protestations to the contrary.

However, when she and her son Mark-- who likes dressing in women's clothes but is too young to identify as gay as yet-- attend a school carnival in costume, Darlene gets angry at the principal, who won't let Mark enter in a Frida Kahlo costume because Mark has no Mexican/Hispanic background.

So, in the liberal world of THE DARLENE SHOW, you should object to political correctness when it imposes limitations on people who have "gay-friendly" values.

I wonder if Sara Gilbert could've lived with the same script if Mark had wanted to dress up like the Black Panther (even sans black skin-makeup).

Somehow I suspect not.

Fwiw, Mark came out as being attracted to boys. I think in The Conners' premiere episode.

Yes, I saw that episode, but I wasn't sure that it was set in stone. since I checked around and saw an old interview in which Gilbert said Mark wasn't capable of being gay because he was too young.
