Very good film; Gary Oldham as Winston Churchill. Relevant in the fact that the US could use a “leader.”

Winnie was such a nice guy. Allowed millions of Indians to die from starvation, saying "Plenty more dogs." Why did this movie concentrate so much on acts of cowardice? Oh yeah, politically correct war movies.
I'll stick with Brad Pitt and associates in Fury, trying to be honest about war.
The only war movie (well, mini series) that struck home for me as being honest about war was Generation Kill.

I haven't seen it. I'll try to check it out,
Many years back, I brought my father to see the Battle of the Bulge, he had been there. Throughout the movie he kept mumbling, "Where's the snow, where's the god damn snow!" Even tho he knew I meant well, he was bit angry I wasted his time with that movie. Some years later, I took him to see Midway, with "Sensaround" which was supposed to make you hear and feel the explosions as if you were there. This time he kept mumbling, "that is not what artillery sounds like, and you can't feel the air move." Afterwards, he said "Damn silly movie." And "Charlton Heston was a Navy pilot, god help us." I can't repeat here what he said about the Japanese American girlfriend subplot.
He liked the model boats In Harm's Way. And he thought Paula Prentiss was hot. He even told my mother Paula was hot. Then he asked mom what she was doing after dinner?
You should watch Come and See- a Russian war film. It makes Saving Private Ryan seem like a girl scout outing.

What I like about Generation Kill is that it shows the boredom of war... the utterly mundane, talking about nothing and then all of a sudden it gets punctuated by violence (Hint - be sure to stick around for the comm chatter at the end of each episode). I guess a mini series has the luxury to do that while a 2 hour movie doesn't.
Found it on Netflix, put it on my disk queue. My own memories are about the boredom, drinking, smoking pot, and playing poker, a lot of poker. Then drinking more. And the biting insects, snakes, rats, good old nature. Never could get dry. Fortunately, my folks knew to send socks, lots of socks.
I was kind of in-between... they sent me to Germany and the Cold War ended. Then they put me on 24-hour alert to go to the Gulf and Saddam threw in the towel (Guess he heard I was coming ), so I figured my work was done.
When you get home well, not only is the work done, it has been done right.
