"Shy girls" on America's Got Talent

She's a child. Perspective. It's a wonderful thing.

Much of the discussion in this thread is about the realities facing people seeking careers in music. I think Courtney could make it ... in a certain niche performance type.

Clearly she has impressed many people. Go to youtube and see the reaction videos. It's pretty amazing. She's got great moves too.

I didn't disagree with any of that. She's impressive. She sings well. She has great moves. Music is hard to break into. I think her "in" would be in something like a Janis Joplin revival.

Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with her. I was more impressed with those two little girls who were on there last year, who had no gimmick. They just sang really well. They were really young, too.

Celine Tam was 9 years old.

Angelica Hale was 10 years old.

I appreciate the fact that the "shy girl" got up there, but just because she's young doesn't impress me. I was onstage from 5 years old. It's easier to do as a kid. As a kid, you kind of have this bulletproof thing going on. You don't understand crowd-size. The nerves come later, when you realize just how badly you can screw up, and what happens if you do.

I was floored that Courtney Hadwin didn't make it to the top 5.

I thought she was going to take the whole thing.

I don't see how she did not make it to the top 5 unless there were a lot of people like me who felt like AGT was trying to manipulate them and decided instead to throw their vote to an underdog.

(I didn't vote. I only vaguely followed the show since the last time I posted about it ... but I tuned in tonight to see the final results.)

I watched it last night and was also surprised but not really. I didn't really care for her last two performances (not last night but the other two) I thought they were bad song choices for her. I enjoyed her version of papas got a brand new bag so maybe it was so good she just didn't deliver after it.

I was really glad though Shin Lim won. I love magicians and prefer those kind of performers on AGT.
