When he heard The Crystals were stuck in New York City with not enough money for the air fare to Los Angeles, record producer Phil Spector enlisted The Blossoms, one of his young African-American west coast vocal groups to record He's A Rebel. This was the #1 hit version that Spector released on his Phillies record label in 1962 under the name The Crystals. Music by the Wrecking Crew. The Crystals had to add He's A Rebel to their touring repertoire, but none of them sounded anything like Darlene Love so they added LaLa Brooks to the group. Darlene Love would eventually join The Crystals. It was SOP for producers and record companies to manipulate and financially cheat such groups during this period.
