What are you listening to? ver. 15.0

When I hear people complaining that music today is not what it was, I can only respond, yes, it is more and you are not listening.

Speaking of chieftans, some nice footage

I came for inspiration
I came looking for grace
And found my reflection
In every passing face
In everyone who gathered
Standing on that shore
Searching the horizon
Not knowin' what exactly for

Searchin' the horizon
For what we can't quite see
When all we've ever needed
Has been there all along
Inside of you and me

I wanna see you holdin' out your light
I wanna see you light the way
But whether everything will be alright
It's just a little soon to say

I didn't find much wisdom
When time was on my side
Too little information
Too much time to decide
I took a couple of wrong turns
It only takes you one
To send you down a lifetime
Of wonderin' what you might've done

Searchin' for a lifetime
For what you wanna see
When all we've ever needed
Has been there all along
Inside of you and me

I wanna see you holdin' out your light
I wanna see you find your way
Beyond the sirens in the broken night
Beyond the sickness of our day
And after what we've come to live with
I wanna know if you're okay
We've gotta think it's gonna be alright
It's just a little soon to say

I came for inspiration
I came looking for truth
And joined in celebration
The passing of my youth
We're here but for a moment
And none of us can see
Beyond the horizon
What kind of world this world can be

Searchin' the horizon
For what we hope to see
When all we've ever needed
Has been there all along
Inside of you and me

I wanna see you holdin' out your light
I wanna see you light the way
Beyond the sirens in the broken night
Beyond the sickness of our day
And after all we've come to live with
I wanna know if you're okay
I wanna think it's gonna be alright
It's just a little soon to say

Some footage of my trips to Memphis & Clarksdale, the places I only dreamt of as a kid growing up in Northern Ireland. African American music called to me and I answered and it gave me hope during dark days. This song is my homage to the blues greats who have gone before and a great honour to walk a little of their lives in this footage.

It's Babylon control
It's Hollywood mind control
They target the youth
I'll show you the proof
Come on see the truth
It's written on I man soul
Rasta man soul

It's news media control
Political mind control
Get under your skin
They're wearing you thin
But no be victim in this empire
Of glittering fool's gold now

I'm in love with this guy's music...so unique...

Somebody That I Used To Know

The first minute. Exquisite.

As a very young child during the early 1950's I have distinct memories of Lionel Hampton playing the vibraphone. I don't recall the particulars, where, when or the music he performed, live or on tv, only that I was fascinated. Banging shining metal bars to make music. I also remember receiving a toy xylophone, banging it ceaselessly, not making music until one of my uncles said "see, magic" and the stick I had been banging it with disappeared. I also have vague memories of calypso music on the vibes, very vague. Of course, as time passed I heard Lionel, and calypso music artists perform on the vibes. Always entrancing. This is not Lionel nor a calypso musician. The is the second vibes player I'm posting in as many weeks, and he goes where none have gone before (to my knowledge) with beauty. Enjoy:

R.E.M. - The One I Love

don't leave early; the magic starts to happen at 3:09

When I was 20, I dropped out of college and learned to drive a 10 wheeler and hauled livestock, horses 99% of the time, around the west to rodeos, state fairs, horse shows, etc. At night, at a show, I'd sleep in the truck or an empty stall and wake up early, drive the cab of the truck into the local town for breakfast. Often these shows were on weekends so I'd be alone early on a Sunday morning in someplace I'd never been before. This song always takes me back there. Unfortunately, the job didn't last as long as I wished it had because the draft board caught up with me so I joined the Army. In some ways, though, this song is about what might have been had a young man, me, not gone off to war and had his life changed forever.
