Noctura - Everything

Probably the best live blues rock player I ever saw.

The Clash - Rock the Casbah

One of my best friends in grad school, was a friend of Joe Strummer-knew the Clash well. he attended almost every Clash concert in the NY area, and the Clash played at an establishment his father managed. He noted that the songs that got the most airplay (Train in vane and RTC) were not their best works. His two favorites from Combat Rock, in addition to the other big hit (Should I stay or should I go) were these (and I agree)

A couple gems from Sandinista

(Topper Headon no longer with the Clash at this point)-one of Mick's great songs

Ohhhh, I'm green with envy. I truly wish that I had seen The Clash live! Joe Strummer is one of my favorite artists. Lucky guy, your friend.

I never really got the chance. I could have seen them in Binghamton NY but this was right after Mick Jones left the band. I declined because it was a long drive and without Nicky and Mick, I just didn't think it would be worthwhile. One of my main regrets. Before say late 81, I was mostly into the GD, some of the British Folk Rock acts and LZ. A friend in law school got me into the Clash. I really regret I didn't see them when they played NYC in 1980 or so-it was only 90 minutes away. But I really hadn't gotten into them at that point. My grad school friend called me years later and said the Clash were going to reform. he was going to get me tickets when it happened. Then Joe died of a heart attack.

I've been listening to The Clash since the early 80s, along with bands like Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Sisters of Mercy, The Ramones, etc. I've never seen any of those bands live. I used to go to small clubs in Berkeley to see the local punk bands. My musical tastes range from punk to classical.

It was sad when Joe died.
