Yes - Going For The One

Anyone else see the resemblance in these lead singers?

I find myself relistening to this cover almost daily. He made this song his own. Interesting, he was trained as a Jewish Cantor, a singer of prayers. A singer of David's psalms.

He has a gorgeous voice...I wish he'd do more songs like this instead of the hard stuff or maybe he does and I've just not heard them...this is hauntingly beautiful...

Something different:

Otis Taylor - Hey Joe - Rare Photos

This evening, after a delightful dinner of an orange and a boring chalky protein shake, about all I can finish and hold down, my kids and some of the grandkids started filtering through the front door. My niece and nephew showed up with their fiddle and violin, respectively. My older daughter sat at the piano, others brought guitars of their own, a banjo, an autoharp, and as I sat on the couch with my Taylor 6 string, we started kicking riffs at each other, and before I knew it we were covering songs written or covered by Geoff Muldaur. His work fit the moment and the mood. Here's 4 of the many songs we played tonight:

We played some other blues tunes, some walking blues, some country blues, and a few Texas Swing and Tex-Mex covers. Didn't drink any beer, smoke any pot, but most have gone home, and I'm sipping an ice tea, feeling higher than a kite from family and music. The kind of evening I wish everyone could enjoy, again and again. Life is good.

We also covered some songs from this old album, very close to my heart from long ago, that other Blues Project:

Elton John - The One

Get up and dance:

Before there were flash mobs, Tito Puente would set up his timbales on a street corner in East Harlem, start playing on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, start playing. Bit by bit as his percussionist calls rang through the streets other musicians would quickly join him, play from the heart and the people would come out to dance in the streets by the thousands. Police would arrive to clear the streets for traffic, then instead, they would join the dancers. They couldn't help themselves. Tito made everyone want to dance. Never a fight, never a knifing, never a shooting, just people dancing in the streets and laughing together, from toddlers to the great grandparents with everyone in-between.

Some red dirt country...
