Current TV Series You'd Like To Recommend

Just finished Kingdom on Netflix, South Korean game of thrones meets The Walking dead. I enjoyed it immensely.

I just started "wentworth" on netflix. Scary stuff. I don't think I would last a day in a prison.

Into the Night season 1: Here's something new. Its a Belgian TV show, and its about this guy who hijacks a plane from Brussels with only a few people still onboard in the wee hours of the morning. He tells them that something happened to the sun, and whenever the daylight comes out everybody dies, so the plane has to keep going west in order to avoid the sunrise. The premise is a little silly, but its fast paced and is only 6 episodes. Not bad. 7.5/10

Succession- I watched about one episode, and it sucks. Loathsome, unsympathetic characters, and a boring derivative soap opera plot about a super rich family with silly dialogue. Brian Cox is a good actor but not even he can save this turd. Rating 0/10

Babylon Berlin Season 3- I think this is the best season so far. The time jump of Germany heading into the Great Depression means we finally get to see the rise of the Nazis, and I love the historical aspects of this show. The protagonist, of course, still acts like an idiot sometimes and there's a the usual last minute life saving plotholes, but its a nice improvement over the previous 2 seasons. Rating 8.5/10

Dark Season 3: Finally, this TV series ends. I kinda regretted watching the first two seasons instead of binge watching all 3 seasons at once because the plot is extremely complex, and you tend to forget what happens in the previous season since it took a long time. If anyone wonders what's it about- its sort of like a cross between Back to the Future, Twin Peaks, Silence of the Lambs, the Killing, and a whole lot of German dourness. Depressing, yet at the same time interesting. Rating: 8/10

Penny Dreadful City of Angels Season 1: I have mixed feelings about this show. The production values are good and really puts you in 1930's Los Angeles, but the plot is all over the place. Racism, Latinos, Demons, and Nazis? I dont get what the whole thing is about. Natalie Dormer plays like 3 different roles, and I dont really understand who or what she is, even after watching the finale. In the end, its a mess. Rating: 5/10

Whoever recommended "Luther", thanks. That is one complex series. I am in the middle of season 2.

I just watched what seems to be the only season of Deep Water. Very interesting.

It's good but short. I think there are only 13 episodes.

The Terror Season 2
- well this season is totally different. Now its about Japanese Americans being interned during WW2 and they have to go up against a demon, sort of like the Grudge movies. The problem is that they dont really come together. The scenes of internment and racism during this time would have been interesting on its own instead of having to be paired up by the haunting of a ghost demon, and it sort of messes the pace up because of it. All in all, I didnt like it. A straightforward story of the internment would have been better. Rating 3.5/10

Perry Mason- My mom liked to watch reruns of Perry Mason, but this reimagining by HBO is very different. For one its set in the 1930s (like Penny Dreadful City of Angels) and Perry is a private eye, with a past of course. Its a little gruesome and gritty. I'm only in episode 4 so far, but I suppose its so-so and worth watching because of the great production values. Rating so far: 6/10

I would give Perry Mason 8/10. Much better than most reviews suggest.

OK, after finally watching all the remaining episodes of Season 1, I now agree with you and change my final rating to an 8 as well.

I guess I wasnt too happy with the series initially because I thought they deviated so far from who Perry Mason was as compared to the old TV show, but I finally understood that it was a prequel. I still didnt like how they revealed the bad guy right away, but all in all, I enjoyed it.

Ugly Delicious Season 1-2: I love food documentary series, and this one is pretty good. Each episode is about one dish, and how its done differently in many parts of the world. David Chang isnt Anthony Bourdain, but he's passable. Rating: 8.5/10

A few more weeks till The Boys Season 2 is out, so cant wait for that.

i started watching Better Call Saul the other day. my wife joined when i was a few episodes in, and now i think that we're probably both hooked. so far, this one has all of the good parts of that plus a lot of humor. we're still in the first season.

We watched all of season five and really enjoyed it so for father's day I bought my husband seasons 1-4. Good idea since we decided staying home during a pandemic was for us.
Amazing how doing that, going back to past seasons, put all the pieces together for us.

I can see why so many give Emmy winning, Better Call Saul such high remarks. Funny as hell!

Oh, for sure. I think I'm one season behind. I need to check again. I'm currently down the Designated Survivor rabbit hole.

The Honourable Woman is pretty good, though derivative The Young Pope is different from anything ever seen before but maybe one needs to be an ex-catholic, the Danish 'Rita' is OK so far (ep 3). PLL: Perfectionists is very badly written, badly acted and should be avoided by anyone with a mental age over 14.

Never heard of The Boys. If it's not on Nordic HBO or Netflix I can't see it.

Bad Blood Season 1-2: I heard that this is the Canuck version of the Sopranos, so I checked it out since I love gangster stuff. It's got some good scenes, but overall its kinda meh because well... like all things Canadian, its rather tame. Even the most bloodthirsty gangster in the show seems too nice. Not enough violence, cussing or anything- it's like a kindergarten version of Scorsese. Its fast moving though, and passes the time. Rating: 5/10

Westworld Season 3: this is probably the most disappointing show Im watching. I was a fan of the original Michael Crichton movie, but this is a sort of letdown. Season 1 was promising if repetitive, Season 2 was convoluted and dragged. Ive watched 2 episodes of S3 and my main problem is that I dont have anyone to root for. I got no sympathy for any character. The humans are totally dumb and selfish, and while youre supposed to root for the robots, I cant imagine why- theyre indestructible since they cant die, so what's the point? Ah well, I'll keep watching until something better comes along. Rating so far: 4.5/10

Agree about Westworld. I stopped watching sometime near the end of Se. 1. Maybe the most over-rated show now around.

We just got done with Silent Witness S22,E3&4 "Lift up your hearts". Very thought provoking. We watched it on Britbox. Prime offers it a week for free, if you are interested.

The Alienist : Angel of Darkness- season 2 and supposedly from book 2 of the Alienist books, this comes out as a dud. Firstly, they completely changed the narrative of the second novel and made everything worse. In the book Steve Taggart is supposed to take over as narrator, but in this adaptation he becomes no more than a cameo. Instead the TV show focuses on Sara Howard... and she's not up to the task. It's gotten boring, and even the scenes of babies being constantly in danger or killed gets repetitive. While the production values is still good, the whole thing is lit so badly you cant see anything during the night scenes. Plot holes and huge subplots get forgotten, and the ending feels rushed, as if the producers got tired of the material and just stopped. Terrible. Rating: 3/10

Away: Season 1- this is supposed to be a sci-fi series about astronauts going to Mars, but it's mostly a soapy melodrama. I've only watched two episodes so far, but it's grating on my nerves. The whole plot is slow because of constant flashbacks. Quit the mushy stuff and get on with it already! Rating: 3.5/10 so far, and will probably stay that way unless it dramatically improves.

I also lost interest in Away by the end of the second episode. It's contrived episodic crisis for which, episode after episode, we are supposed to enjoy for its "realism" and "suspense". At this rate the space craft will be bailing wire and a superglued lego set by the time it gets to Mars.

Just as annoyingly, its another sci fi, self-consciously 'diversity correct', gaggle of characters: a closeted Chinese lesbian, a African "Brit" writer, a white female mission leader, etc. etc. And as usual the white guy(s) are either bores or crude stereotypes (the Russian macho)...etc. etc.

So from this a 'space soap opera' that made me hope for a mission abort after the end of the second episode.

I’m watching: “Raised by Wolves.” It’s about androids and humans on a new planet trying to establish a civilization.
Has an atheist/religious theme running through the story. Ridley Scott is the producer (I think.)
It is worth watching, starts a bit slow but is picking up. Ragnar from Vikings is one of the actors.

The Good Fight on CBS All Access is a very good show.

It is, and a spinoff of "The Good Wife", which is also a good legal drama.

I would recommend Raised by Wolves on HBO or whatever it is where you are, and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (especially if you are already a Douglas Adams fan), Umbrella Academy and The Witcher on Netflix.
