Current TV Series You'd Like To Recommend

The wife and I binged (well, she watched while I listened) on the Golden Girls a few months ago. Hilarious stuff.

FYI, another show to take your mind of all the negative stuff out there today is "The Good Place." My wife is binge-watching it for like the third time right now.

Your wife knows good tv. I'll check out the other show, thanks.

Did you watch El Chapo on Netflix? It was great as well but I find having to read subtitles annoying.

Is it any good? I skipped it because it looked too much like Narcos, but I might as well watch it if its good...

As far as subtitles goes, Ive lived abroad and watch a ton of foreign films so Im used to it.

Finished episode 8 of Picard, and so far its the best Trek series since DS9's Dominion War arc. A lot of Trekkies hate the show because its so different than the usual stuff, but I like ti because of that same reason.

I'll binge Kingdom Season 2 very shortly. Looks good:

On HBO, My Brilliant Friend, an Italian series, season 1 played last year, "Pseudonymous author Elena Ferrante has written four mega-popular Neopolitan novels that explore the complicated intensity of female friendship. "My Brilliant Friend" is the first in the series, and also the first to be adapted for television. Filmed in Italian, the eight-episode drama centers on elderly author Elena Greco, who learns that the most important friend in her life, Lila Cerullo, has disappeared without a trace. It causes Elena to reflect on the early days of their friendship in dangerous but fascinating Naples, Italy, in the 1950s, when Elena and Lila are two very different girls at the top of their class. The story goes on to cover more than 60 years of their lives as Elena tries to describe the mystery of Lila."

and

The Plot Against America

"An alternate American history during World War II is told through the eyes of a working-class Jewish family in New Jersey as they endure the political rise of Charles Lindbergh, who captures the presidency and turns the nation toward fascism."

Babylon Berlin- German TV show (the Germans are catching up with good quality stuff on TV these days) about Berlin in the last years of the Wiemar Republic. I was a big fan of the first 3 seasons of Boardwalk Empire so it's pretty interesting. 2 Seasons are already out so this should keep me going until Man in the High Castle Season 3 comes out.

Lucifer - Neflix

I just found something called "life below zero, port protection". Is that staged or real? Some of the people look like they have been hired for the "occasion". If that is the way of life for real, they got one up on the rest of us.

Reality shows are often not "real." But...

That's pretty remote.

It always brings a tear to my eye when I see someone bawling about losing their dog.

Killing Eve is back, season 3, I believe.

Hell, half the fun of this series is listening to the damned soundtrack.

I watched about a quarter of the new "Killing Ever" episode before bailing out and going to bed. It's not that it wasn't riveting. It was. But, when everything you watch is on the Internet, there is never any real sense of urgency to finish watching a show. You can always catch it again later.

But, that doesn't mean I won't be quick to read the recap the next day.

Spoiler alert

Zero Zero Zero on Amazon Prime!

Intense!

Again,

Tiger King.

It's the best 7 hours of television in history.

I watched about 4 episodes of that ****, and its a redneck soap opera. I guess its entertaining to see bucktoothed losers make asses of themselves if one has got nothing to do because of the virus, but I think it's TV at it's worst. 5.5/10

Resistance (TV Mini-Series 2019– ) - IMDb Irish historical drama about the war for independence from the British. Not bad. Better than season 1. 7.5\10

I love Lucifer but also been watching some of my old series, like Scarecrow and Mrs King and seaQuest.

I agree. I don't see the appeal in Tiger King. Are we so fascinated with rednecks, now? Not me.

-------

Just finished the second season of Succession. Very solid. The 10th episode, season 2 finale, is excellent, and ends with a huge bang. Score: 9 out of 10. Could be a ten if the characters weren't all so thoroughly unlikable, but this is part of the point.

I don't know if a season 3 is in the works. I hope it is. I'd be surprised if HBO canned this show since it won several awards.

-------

Episodes 1 and 2 of Killing Eve season 3 are just as good as seasons 1 and 2. It's a pity, though, having to wait a week for each episode. I got so used to binge-watching... the regular pace is killing.

World on Fire (TV Series 2019– ) - IMDb British WW2 drama series and while it has a lot of cliches like last minute rescues, improbable escapes and a thoroughly silly love triangle, there are enough advantages like good production values and Sean Bean (he hasnt died yet either lol), which is enough to warrant a recommendation if you dont have anything better to watch. 6.5/10

Better Call Saul (TV Series 2015– ) - IMDb Season 5, and the laughs shift into high gear as Jimmy McGill finally transforms into Saul Goodman. Plenty of Breaking Bad cameos so its awesome, but one cant help but feel a creeping sense of doom as this is the second to the last season, and one could only wonder what will happen to Kim (Saul's wife) at the end of all this since its a prequel to BB. 8/10

Watched about 10 minutes of Killing Eve Season 1 before I got interrupted, and its intriguing enough for me to keep going.

Killing Eve Season 1: on the recommendation of fellow members here, I decided to give it a shot. Lasted about 4 episodes before I gave up. It started off as slightly amusing, but then devolved into farce. Not realistic at all, and the mind numbing actions of the characters, who are supposed to be part of the Brit intelligence community, seems to make them all into idiots. I still think the best spy show on TV is The Bureau. Skip this one. Rating: 4/10

The Plot Against America
miniseries. Just finished the first episode, and it feels kinda lightweight. I'll watch a few more eps and then decided if I ought to continue. The premise doesnt seem very realistic (Lindbergh wasnt a Nazi sympathizer, and he definitely wasnt an anti-semite) and a similar TV show (The Man in the High Castle) did the alternate history thing better, but I'll give this one more chance.

Bad Blood Season 1-2: I heard that this is the Canuck version of the Sopranos, so I checked it out since I love gangster stuff. It's got some good scenes, but overall its kinda meh because well... like all things Canadian, its rather tame. Even the most bloodthirsty gangster in the show seems too nice. Not enough violence, cussing or anything- it's like a kindergarten version of Scorsese. Its fast moving though, and passes the time. Rating: 5/10

Westworld Season 3: this is probably the most disappointing show Im watching. I was a fan of the original Michael Crichton movie, but this is a sort of letdown. Season 1 was promising if repetitive, Season 2 was convoluted and dragged. Ive watched 2 episodes of S3 and my main problem is that I dont have anyone to root for. I got no sympathy for any character. The humans are totally dumb and selfish, and while youre supposed to root for the robots, I cant imagine why- theyre indestructible since they cant die, so what's the point? Ah well, I'll keep watching until something better comes along. Rating so far: 4.5/10

When I first heard about this series, I thought "Okay. Another show about kids." But after watching the first episode, I was hooked. It's not just about young people. It's about people rising to the challenge of a ruthless enemy, while coming to grips with their own human failings...with witchcraft as a backdrop.

Hollywood on Netflix is.............. interesting.

A group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood try to make it big - no matter the cost.

It's a Ryan Murphy series so it's very Glee-y (without the singing). Definitely not a show to watch near children or with your grandma. Jim Parsons plays the ridiculously rude and awful agent Henry Wilson who was known to treat his clients like trash. The problem is, he still sounds exactly like Sheldon. In between his constant, deranged, profanity-laced rantings I expect him to smile and say "Bazinga!" I wish he would've changed his voice. Patti LuPone is great. The guy who plays Rock Hudson is good --- but was Rock Hudson a backwoods idiot? That's how he's portrayed. And Vivian Leigh's character is very ..... not sure if that's how she was too. I wonder if she actually sounded like that.

Giri/Haji on Netflix..absolutely brilliant Japanese British series.

“Law & Order” always has some very interesting and thought-provoking episodes. The writing and acting is always very good. Very under-rated show, IMO.
