Current TV Series You'd Like To Recommend

The Crown Season 6- The final season, and details Diana's last days. The final 6 episodes are mostly run of the mill stuff, so it kinda peters out. In the end its so-so for me. Rating: 5/10

World War II From the Frontlines (2023) limited series documentary, which is really nothing more than recolored newsreels with sound added to make it more immersive. Nothing new, and kinda shallow. Rating: 5.5/10

Down to 2 more episodes in Fargo Season 5. Hope Juno Temple and Jon Hamm get some recognition for their performances. So far, it's been a great watch.

I just finished Survivor 45. Worst season ever.

Not a show but interesting documentary.

Class Action Park - The story of the notorious Action Water Park in New Jersey and controversial owner Eugene Mulvihill. A Water Park with basically no rules. Crazy story, really enjoyed the indepth documentary.

Available on Max

Archie. Amazon/Britbox, Cary Grant biopic short series.

I knew nothing about CG. I dont believe I've ever seen one of his movies. I had no idea he had any connection to Dyan Cannon. Growing up, I didnt really watch black and white movies, or even old color movies.

So everything in the series was news to me. All new info. I thought it was pretty good and it's worth watching. No real surprises but well done. If you have your own expectations about CG, you may feel differently.

I watched the first episode but I couldnt finish it. There was a lot of inaccurate stuff in it, plus the rock score during the flashbacks felt totally anachronistic.

I'm watching Northern Exposure on Netflix. I'm not sure I'd recommend because I can't decide if it's a good show. I keep watching though.

It's a fantastic show IMO. They filmed it near here and we went and watched them film a few times. We used to go to Roslyn, where it was filmed, to fish before they kinda took over the town for the set.

The old show, or is it something new? I loved the old show.

It's the old one. I watched the pilot again so that I could see Rob Morrow call Janine Turner a hooker. "I'm not a prostitute; I'm your landlord." is one of the best verbal smackdowns ever.

Amazon also brought back Heroes. I'm binging season one.

In the Not-on-Netflix races, Roku channel has The Mentalist and Babylon 5.

They were so good together. I don't have Netflix, but Vudu has the series for $60, so maybe one of these days..

The Mentalist was good. It's amazing how little I remember of a bundh of these shows (I don't know if it's age or time) - Hulu has Moonlighting, LA Law & CSI....so far I haven't remembered a single episode.

I've been binging LA Law since Thanksgiving. There's 8 seasons, altho it jumps the shark in season 5.

One that's hard to find is Third Watch. That was also really good. Love Bobby Canavale!

I do remember LA Law getting bad towards the end. I never saw Third Watch, but I just looked them up, and they might be on Tubi? I was looking for Chicago Hope, but apparently they also have music licensing issues, like Moonlighting did.

Third Watch had music licensing issues too. I'm still not sure if the later seasons (after season 3) are available.

Northern Exposure is not on Netflix; it's on Amazon.

Spoiler alert.
Patrick meets Red John in season 1, Episode 2.

Tried LA Law again. It's not the same this time through. Like some other shows, Remington Steele comes to mind, I just cannot watch them again.

Of course it is, because I just ended my membership with them.

If you want a fun series, have you tried Boston Legal? William Shatner, James Spader. It's on HULU. Not sure if anywhere else.

A really cool continuum of legal shows, if you like those, is LA Law, The Practice, Boston Legal.

Late 80s/early 90s, then mid-90s, then 2000s. I have DVDs of The Practice and Boston Legal in my camper and watch those when camping, etc.

My wife gets Prime for the free shipping. The video content went unnoticed for years.

I've never bothered with it for shipping - on the rare occasions I've needed something right now, I use my daughters prime. But usually things get here even sooner than the arrival date they gave me. I'm sure the video content is great - I just don't like they layout of it, and it seems they're really pushing paid videos or paid subscriptions.

Yeah, I liked Boston Legal. That wasn't that long ago though, and I'm kind of enjoying not remembering episodes of show. It's like new shows all over again, other than the huge padded shoulders and big hairdo's.

I love it and happily use the crap out of it. For shipping (and returns are ridiculously easy) and video content. Loads and loads of free stuff and you can curate other streaming services easily thru it, like Paramount and Britbox. Find everything in one place.

But my one of my favorite series of the year was Deadloch, a murder mystery/black comedy set in Tasmania. One of the funniest things I've ever seen. Accents thick, some phrases very culturally specific, so I turned on English subtitles, LOL. And that's on Amazon...I'm hoping for a 2nd season.

In 2023, by far the best 2 series I watched, simply outstanding and very different from each other, were:

Extraordinary Attorney Woo
Deadloch

10/10

I don't get Hulu. I liked Spader much better during his short stint on The Practice.

I am thinking of shows from the era and my mind is drawn to The Good Wife, Ghost Whisperer, Mad Men, The Office, and Lost. Guilty pleasures include Firefly, Burn Notice, and Grey's Anatomy.

Not sure Extraordinary Attorney Woo would be something I'd love, but I just look up Deadloch - sounds like something I'd really like. I'll have to keep that one in mind in case I ever renew my prime subscription. There's an odd little show on Hulu called Obituary - I've only watched one episode, but I like it. Really, my problem is that there is too much to watch just on Hulu, Peacock and BritBox, and I have to keep a list of what episode I've watched of what show (Hulu every now and then seems to reset that for some reason) because I have to rotate them.
