Current TV Series You'd Like To Recommend

The only TV show I've found riveting in decades is "Person of Interest." Is Big Brother always watching? Can an AI grow?

I stay up late on the weekends to watch reruns. It was a very successful show, but CBS pulled the plug because it didn't own it and wasn't enjoying enough revenue. Some of the minor characters were wonderful, Camryn Manheim, for example, as "Control." It's available on Netflix.

Frontier, Godless, and Counterpoint.

Season III of The Expance is starting in April and I'm looking forward to that. I really enjoyed seasons I and II. Altered Carbon is very good too, although to date I still liked Richard Morgan's books more than what I've seen on the lobotomy box.

Cheers.

The Knick. I'm finishing it up now. It was a short-lived show (2 seasons), but it is quite something. The first thing you'll notice is the soundtrack--dark synthwave or Vangelis on a really bad day. Then it's the dark version of E.R. mixed with Requiem for a Dream, because it's early 20th century hospitals and lots of drug use. Lots...and lots of drug use.

As someone with a thing against needles, it's a tough show to watch. And if you don't like those old TLC surgery videos, you may not like this.

I thought THE KNICK was great TV for the first few episodes especially the race riot episode. It seems shortly after that it became all about drugs and went to hell fast as I absolutely DESPISE movies or TV about drugs.

I watched all ten episodes and loved every minute of it. Really great TV.

My favorite for several years now has been the BBC drama CALL THE MIDWIFE. Great TV every episode. Its on PBS on Sunday nights.

I didn't start till 3 episodes in, my wife watched from the beginning and kept telling to watch so I did, crammed the first 3 in before I watched the fourth. I was hooked.

I was so glad when they saved Joseph, do you think they will do another season?

Hanging in there with TWD/FTWD but the three shows I really REALLY enjoyed are on hiatus right now:

1) Better Call Saul (we both were HUGE Breaking Bad fans)
2) Shameless (US version - not the lame UK original)
3) Ray Donovan

I may give Colony a try but Carlton Cuse pissed me off with the wrapup/finale of Lost SOOOOOO much...

As you might guess, I get a real kick out of shows that center around life as a train wreck for a main character and their families.

Okay, finished Altered Carbon, which turned into a slog because none of the characters were likable. Plus the protagonists were terrible actors too. 5/10

Also binged watched The Alienist throughout the weekend. A good adaptation. I was apprehensive initially because I thought they were going to screw it up (Im a big fan of the book), and although its tamer than the source novel, they did make some changes to it. But all in all- satisfying. 8/10

In the book, John Moore was more of a straight arrow and not into whores. It is told form his POV since its in first person. Steve Taggart becomes the narrator in the sequel.

Also, Joseph dies in the book, and it was explained that he looked like John Moore's dead younger brother, which is why Moore made fast friends with him.

The ending was different too.

The author, Caleb Carr, also wrote a sequel titled The Lady of Darkness. I wonder if they are going to make that into a miniseries too...

I also finished season 1 of Babylon Berlin- so far its alright- nice atmosphere and very good research (there were more communists in Berlin than there were Nazis), but I didnt like the protagonist- he was too naive and stupid. Hopefully season 2 gets better. 6.5/10

Currently watching The Looming Tower- its based on a nonfiction Pulitzer Prize winning book about the events leading up to 9/11 and how a few dedicated FBI agents might have stopped it if the CIA coordinated with them.

I recommend Z-Nation. It's ridiculous in every sense of the word, but once you learn to embrace the ridiculousness of the show, it becomes very enjoyable.

Greetings, TheGoverness. :2wave:

We thoroughly enjoyed Schitts Creek which is also ridiculous in every sense of the word, but we sure did laugh - a lot! We knew nothing about the series until someone told me how hilarious it was, but when we watched the first episode on netflix cable, we were hooked and looked forward to watching every episode, and since it's on cable we can re-watch it any time...... It's also on POP TV

Finished the first episode of Lost in Space. Not bad. More emphasis on science though its still a space opera. A little contrived in regards to plot since the family gets saved in the nick of time, but the characters are more well rounded and complex, so it's a good, fun family show. 7/10 so far.

I finished The Terror and while it started off well. it began to drag. The pace of this miniseries is glacial ... and some of the scenes tend to stop abruptly, as if the showrunners weren't sure how to end it. It would have been better if they cut the episodes in half to maybe 5. Overall not bad, but too slow. 7/10

I'll binge watch Gomorrah Season 3 this weekend. This is about the Nepalese mafia, the Comorra, and it is a huge hit in Italy, it draws in more than double the audience for Game of Thrones, even though they have to watch it with subtitles too (apparently the Napoli language/accents are too strong for even the locals there). I loved season 1, but season 2 became a little too nihilistic for me- about 90% of the cast dies every season, but it's still better than most other TV shows out there.

I picked this up this week, too. When I saw Toby Stephens and Molly Parker were leading, I knew it'd be worth checking out.

We'll see if they can handle their plot armor issues.

Nice to see a credible, realistic reboot which avoids the tired cliche' of making all the characters into raging douchemonkeys.

Legion. Watch it.

Watch Cobra Kai - I've posted links to the first 2 episodes which are on Youtube. All of Season 1 is out, comprising 10 episodes in total, but to see beyond the first 2 episodes, you'll have to register for Youtube Red. (It's not a big deal, because you can register for their 30-day free trial and binge-watch the entire series, and then you can cancel your membership right after.)

At least you don't have to watch any damn commercials.

Is anyone watching Naked and Afraid? Silly, right?

Unforgotten. PBS. Excellent.

Whoa, The Expanse has been cancelled. Just before the start of Season 3, too.

Finished Gomorra Season 3, which was an absolute shocker in the end. I wonder how theyre going to continue the series now.

I'll start season 2 of Westworld in a bit.

The Expanse has been cancelled?? I can't believe it! The best Sci-Fi show of the last decade and one of the best ever... based on a superb book series which they very faithfully rendered... everything is perfect about this show, with unusually high quality for the SyFy channel... and they go and cancel it?

Unbelievable! I just watched last Wednesday's episode and it was superb!

Why in the hell was it cancelled?? :2mad:

PS - I googled it. Apparently the producers are trying to find a new home for the show. I hope they find it.

They have nearly secured a contract with Amazon.
