As the title says...what do you think it will take to salvage the movies from this most awful movie in the franchise?
That would imply that Star Wars was needing to be salvaged from critical and financial success. If Star Wars survived the Prequels, it's going to survive this.
Whatever makes you imagine the franchise needs salvaging? The latest film received mixed reviews (in fact all of the new era of films so far have done so) but that’s more than enough for the franchise to survive. Unless they really dropped the ball, the significant core fan-base plus all the curious hangers-on (as I count myself) will continue to go to see the films in the cinemas and many will continue to buy the merchandise too. They’ve probably still got another 10 or 20 years of that available if they want it.As the title says...what do you think it will take to salvage the movies from this most awful movie in the franchise?
I heard it was awesome. Going to see it today.

It won't be salvaged. You'll need to turn to other sources of good art in science fiction media to get that sort of enjoyment again.
You’re conflating artistic quality and commercial success, somewhat misrepresenting both. First, the quality of the film is largely a matter of opinion and on this opinions vary widely. I personally think it had flaws and some questionable plot decisions but it wasn’t a bad film overall which I enjoyed – I’ve seen plenty that were much, much worse. Commercially speaking, there is no way it could be described as a flop. It was easily the most popular film in theatres across the various markets, reaching similar levels to the other recent Star Wars films and there’s no doubt it will easily make its money back. Certainly not a runaway hit but in no way a flop.Sorry to disappoint. The plot is awful. And the numbers tell the real truth...it was one of the worst flops of any movie. More like a parody than an actual movie. It was just so poorly written and directed.
The difference is that they the prequels were at least Star Wars movies. It told the story that we needed and left room for success and story expansion. This movie did not. The plot was so horrifically awful that I just don’t see it keeping a decent fan base. It was so bad that I’m not even worried about someone spoiling the next movie. At all.
That franchise is not going anywhere. It will make a ton of money and be back. It was not great and you can clearly see the effect of not have JJ Abrams directing. But the kids will love it. If the standard is to have a GREAT movie every time no movie franchise has ever done that. Not even the Godfather

Star Wars has never been either art or science fiction, it’s pulp fantasy. I continue to find it entertaining pulp fantasy though. It won't be salvaged. You'll need to turn to other sources of good art in science fiction media to get that sort of enjoyment again.
Right, set to earn a $1 billion dollars by the end of the year with a $200 million dollar budget is a flop. What planet do you live on where that's a flop?

Yup Star Wars movies are mucho dinero at the box office, probably the most successful movie franchise ever. I doubt they'll stop now.

I think now that the last human character has died from the original movies they need to move on with the plot and embrace a new direction. Let it sink or swim in a new direction
The plot is the worst part of this movie. I don’t need characters from the original trilogy or anything like that. Ray and fin are enough. Ray and fin are enough to keep this movie going even Kylo is a cool character. But when they are poorly written...there isn’t much that can be done. A bad movie is a bad movie. As people keep bringing up Jar Jar and anakin. Bad characters. But love them or hate them...the plot had some semblance of order and made sense . And remember...ultimately...anakin is a bad guy and you aren’t supposed to like him lol. And at least his lightsaber duel was epic at the end of 3.
But seriously. They have squandered this and it is going to to take a lot of effort to make the next movie pass better than a kidney stone. And even being fair...I enjoyed the force awakens. It felt like a new direction was being taken with new characters. Thoughntjey shouldn’t have recycled the plot.
