Interesting pictures, Winston. I can’t recall a ‘favorite’ artist. I live in the metro DC area ad may years ago there was an article in the WAPO about an exhibition at one of the Smithsonian galleries. The artist is long gone, but his subject material were simple objects. They were so well ‘rendered’ that they could be mistaken for photographs. Things like an apple on a table or a still life were very appealing. I have tried searches in the past to no avail. Art (paintings and sculpture) I like tends to leave little for the viewer to try and figure out. Happy Sunday, thanks for the post, wish I could reciprocate.

Trite, but mine is Donatelo. IMO, he was, and is, the sculptor of sculptors.

Fantasy artist: Boris Vallejo & Julie bell

Americana: Norman Rockwell

Historical: Michelangelo

I met Hope and the rest of the Warm Inventions at the West Memphis T/A truckstop back in 2002. I spent about a hour with them sharing the next booth while we were eating. They asked me how truckers lived on the road for weeks at a time, so I was obliged to show them that it was pretty easy. They were amazed that my truck actually had a TV, microwave, GPS, XM radio, and a refrigerator.

man, that is super cool. i'm jealous. they must have been on their Bavarian Fruit Bread tour, as the album came out the year before. i love that record.

Assuming musicians count as artists too, I'm most partial to Yoann Lemoine (also known as Woodkid) and the band Sabaton. I've linked to two of their songs that I particularly enjoy, on YouTube. The first is The Golden Age, the second is 40:1. Lyrics are in the video.

Finally, an honorable mention goes to Caravan Palace with Rock It For Me. Not a lyrics video, although someone posted them in the comments. The animation in their music videos is just as great as their music. These two bands and one director are among the only artists whose content almost always satisfies my particular tastes. Eminem's in that category too, but he's infamous enough that I don't need to link to his content. Practically everyone knows who he is.

As far as 2D, picture-based art goes, Junji Ito's made some pretty insane manga. If there's any particular artist I keep an eye out for, it's him.
