Why I love Christmas

The always exquisitely blue Bessie Smith.

And another legend reminds us Christmas has a melancholy side as well.

I'm getting carried away, it's 17 degrees here this morning. Not that I need an excuse. :)

Not very sentimental. :)

And less sentimental. :)

Some Christmas fun.

We're all broke after Christmas. (sorry, couldn't help myself)

Another great female voice, from the band Renaissance

One of the three great folk rock singers from England circa 1970s on (Maddy Prior and Sandy Denny being the other two)

Rock Christmas!

Sandy wasn't a rock voice. She came from the folk revival. Very much a superb voice. So sweet.

Annie is still singing. Maddy also.

Since I will be in Manhattan most of the day, I'll post this now:

Thank god they no long require castrati.

Ever so sweet.

I see parents all over America watching their daughters do dance recitals to excerpts from the Nutcracker, as their sons are standing at attention playing little drummer boys.

Both could have made good use of a dobro player. :)

hard to top this one-my favorite Christmas Carol by maybe the finest tenor in history. Trishia isn't too bad either!

On the lighter side.

beefheart - Show a little respect for those who do not believe as you do.

Irving Berlin despised the next version, did everything he could to prevent its release. Link Bing before him, Elvis turned this into one of his biggest hits.

I'd like to hear Disturbed do a cover of this, and I'd listen for the sound of Irving rolling over in his grave. :)

And the best for last

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year!
