Has anyone here tried it?

The idea is that you sign up. Install an app on your phone. They send you a "credit card".

They charge YOUR personal credit card or debit card $9.95/month (although I got a special $79.95/year deal)

When you are within 100 yds of the theater you pick your movie on your app, Then you "purchase" your movie with your MoviePass card and MoviePass pays for your movie,

Nearly every one of our usual theaters participates. (Notable exclusion is the Landmark theater chain - they show mostly independent film/foriegn film)

It is good on opening night. 2D movies only (fine by me)

We are so thrilled with it.

They must me losing a mint on us!!!!

We also have been using out loyalty cards - so it is like we are double dipping.:lamo

Any one else use this?

Go look up how this app is actually making money. My suggestion is if a deal seems to good to be true... It probably is.

Well, we have gotten our year's worth of payment in a month (yeah we see that many movies:lamo)

So we are good!

The $9.95 a month thang is a deal killer. I average at the most going to a theatre for a movie six times a year. And I can go online and purchase movie tickets with no monthly charge.

Does this 10 bucks a month cover your entire family?

I understand that is per person.
I am looking into it, My Wife and I normally see about 4 movies a month, so this could be a killer deal.
I think the theaters expect to make their money back on concessions, and repeat business.

Hah!

I was going to comment above,

"Ten bucks a month, and make sure she brings a large purse filled with popcorn!"

Just one person. Each person needs their own card.

You can see up to one 2 d movie a day.

OMG I am totally getting this. I love going to the movies, but by the time we get to the movies, pay for popcorn and soda, etc, we are upwards of $40 to $50 dollars a trip.

And I checked, and my local theater (yeah, small town, we only have one) apparently participates.

Thanks! <3

My only guess is you didn't take my advice.

We have been using it for nearly 2 months we have been seeing 2 movies a week.

Is their something sketchy....are they using child labor to create the cards?

I do not think it is sustainable ...but for now.....it has more than paid for itself...on top of that, we are gaining loyalty points for tickets we are not paying for (free wine at the theater...yeah!!!)

I am wondering also - if I buy two cards, is it "person specific?" Meaning if I buy two cards, and I want my daughter to use my card to go see a Marvel movie with her Dad, would that be OK, I wonder?

Actually, the theater does not lose money. Movie pass pays them,

They count on people in cheap areas not using it alot. (think gym membership)

I think the other thing is they may actually try to sell their business. Seeing that it has already paid for it self several time over we are cool. We got lucky and are on a $79.95/year plan. (I think the current price is not discounted)

It is person specific, but they never have checked...my guess if the service continues on, they may start asking for ID.
